Shedeur Sanders Didn't Want to Play Behind Lamar Jackson, Nixed Ravens Pick
Shedeur Sanders with their fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but once the quarterback heard about the Ravens' plans, he nixed the pick. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Sanders "let it be known to Baltimore that he didn't want to be on a roster with Lamar Jackson." The Ravens pivoted to offensive lineman Carson Vinson with the No. 141 pick, and Sanders landed with the Browns three selections later. Schefter's report seems to indicate that Sanders didn't have anything against Jackson in particular, and his concern was more about being stuck behind any quarterback who wasn't going to relinquish their starting role anytime soon. He likely would have had a similar reaction to being drafted by any team with an established starter, which is why Cleveland ended up being an ideal landing spot for him. While Joe Flacco is the Browns' starter for the time being, Sanders has a chance to start games later this season if Flacco struggles or Cleveland's playoff hopes are destroyed.
