Ryan Waldschmidt Hits Seventh Double-A Home Run
Ryan Waldschmidt drew a walk and hit a two-run home run in a 1-for-4 day at the plate on Tuesday for Double-A Amarillo, scoring twice in the contest as well. The D-backs' second-ranked prospect has flourished since his promotion to Double-A, slashing .290/.413/.492 with seven home runs and 14 steals in 50 games at that level. He's been even hotter lately, going 26-for-59 (.441) over his last 16 games, with six of his seven Double-A home runs coming during that stretch. The 22-year-old has also nearly walked as much as he's struck out for the Sod Poodles, registering a 36:38 BB:K. At this rate, he could see some time at Triple-A before the season is over, and could be knocking on the door to the majors at some point next year. The 31st overall pick from last year's MLB Draft should be stashed away in dynasty leagues.Source: MiLB.com
Arizona Diamondbacks outfield prospect Pablo Lopez Goes Four Innings in Second Rehab Start
Pablo Lopez (shoulder) made his second minor-league rehab start on Tuesday night with Triple-A St. Paul and went four innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits (one homer) while walking none and striking out five. Lopez threw 46 of his 68 pitches for strikes and got 12 swings and misses. It wasn't a dominant outing, but he might need only one more rehab start on the farm before the Twins activate him from the 60-day injured list and return him to their starting rotation to close out the 2025 season. The 29-year-old has been out since June 5 with a right teres-major muscle strain in his right shoulder, but before the injury, he had gone 5-3 for the Twins with a career-best 2.82 ERA (3.03 FIP) and 1.07 WHIP with 61 punchouts and 14 walks in 60 2/3 frames over his 11 starts. Scoop him up now if he's available on your waiver wire.Source: Milb.com
Minnesota Twins right-hander Spencer Strider to be Given an Extra Day Before Next Start
Spencer Strider an extra day off before his next start, which will deprive him of a two-start week, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Meanwhile, impressive rookie right-hander Hurston Waldrep will be afforded one more start in what has been a dominant month of August. The 26-year-old Strider's next appearance is scheduled to come on Monday in a tough matchup against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. He's been far from the form of his breakout 2023 season this year, mainly due to injuries, but Strider did bounce back with a seven-inning, one-run performance on Monday versus the Miami Marlins. Before that, he had surrendered 20 earned runs on 29 hits (seven homers) in 11 2/3 innings in his previous three starts. Fantasy managers will be hoping his good outing on Monday carries over into a showdown with the Cubbies.Source: MLB.com - Mark Bowman
The Atlanta Braves are expected to give right-hander Dante Nori Earns Promotion to High-A Jersey Shore
Dante Nori has been promoted to High-A Jersey Shore after a solid campaign at Single-A Clearwater. The Phils' sixth-ranked prospect slashed .262/.363/.381 with four home runs and a 66:75 BB:K in 109 games played. His 63 runs scored and 37 stolen bases were both top five in the Florida State League at the time of his promotion. The 2024 first-rounder doesn't offer much power yet, but should grow into more, and has a solid hit tool with an excellent eye to go along with plenty of speed. That combination makes him a prospect to monitor in dynasty formats.Source: Phillies Player Development
Philadelphia Phillies outfield prospect Janson Junk Goes on Injured List With Ulnar Nerve Irritation
Janson Junk (elbow) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 24) with right ulnar-nerve irritation and recalled right-handers Seth Martinez and Freddy Tarnok from Triple-A Jacksonville in corresponding moves. Left-hander Josh Simpson was optioned to Jacksonville. The 29-year-old Junk was forced to exit his last start on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays with a right-arm injury, and now he'll have to miss at least the next two weeks. Given the nature of his injury, there's a very good chance we won't see Junk pitch for the Marlins again in 2025. The former 22nd-round pick by the New York Yankees in 2017 out of Seattle University has gone 6-2 with a 4.09 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 61:10 K:BB in 17 outings (12 starts) over 88 innings for the Fish this year. It's unclear who might take Junk's rotation spot.Source: Miami Marlins

John Means Allows Four Runs in Rehab Start
John Means wasn't very sharp in his latest minor-league rehab start on Tuesday with Triple-A Columbus, as he allowed four earned runs on three hits (all homers) while walking two and striking out two in three innings of work in a loss to Triple-A Louisville. It was his first start at the Triple-A level after his first two rehab starts came at High-A. The 32-year-old southpaw got his pitch count up to 61 in the outing, and he's likely to need one or two more minor-league tune-ups before the Guardians consider activating him for his 2025 debut. Means, who was an All-Star in 2019 and finished as the runner-up for the American League Rookie of the Year, has made only 10 starts at the major-league level since the start of the 2022 season. There's no guarantee he'll return to a starting role in Cleveland, either, so he should remain on the waiver wire in mixed leagues.Source: Milb.com
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Brandon Birdsell to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
Source: Maddie Lee
Chicago Cubs pitching prospect Brandon Birdsell (elbow) will undergo season-ending elbow surgery after just four starts at Triple-A this season. The Cubs' ninth-ranked prospect got a late start to the season because of a shoulder injury, coming off the injured list in mid-July and pitching to a 3.38 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 12.5 percent K-BB% in 18 2/3 innings of work. The 25-year-old has a lengthy injury history, although he's been healthy the last couple of years, and this latest injury will delay his major league debut until at least 2026 at the earliest. An estimated return timetable will be provided once the surgery has been completed. The 25-year-old was named the Cubs' 2024 Minor League Pitcher of the Year and has well-above-average control, so there is still solid real-life and fantasy potential in that arm.Landen Roupp to Miss Four Weeks
Landen Roupp (knee) will miss four weeks after a second opinion confirmed he has a bone bruise in his left knee. Roupp suffered the injury in his most recent start, Aug. 20 against the San Diego Padres, when he had to be carted off the field. With the Giants at 64-68 and likely out of playoff contention, Roupp may not make it back this season. Regardless, it's a relief for Roupp and the Giants that his injury isn't serious enough to affect his status for the 2026 campaign. The 26-year-old has made 22 starts this season and gone 7-7 with a 3.80 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and 102:45 K:BB in 106 2/3 innings.Source: MLB.com
San Francisco Giants right-hander Brendan Rodgers Pulled From Rehab Assignment
Brendan Rodgers (head/back) is dealing with lumbar spine inflammation and has been pulled from his rehab assignment. This continues an injury-riddled season for Rodgers, who landed on the 10-day IL on June 18 with an oblique strain and has faced multiple setbacks since then. In his first Triple-A rehab game on July 18, Rodgers suffered a concussion and a nasal fracture. He had been working back from that until this latest issue cropped up. There's no timeline for Rodgers' return, which doesn't bode well with time running out on the regular season. The 29-year-old opened 2025 as the Astros' starting second baseman, but he hit a brutal .191/.266/.278 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 128 plate appearances before his injury woes began.Source: MLB.com
Houston Astros second baseman Jacob Latz to Start on Wednesday
Jacob Latz will start against the Los Angeles on Wednesday. Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) had been in line to toe the rubber, but his superb season came to an end on Tuesday as a result of a strained rotator cuff. While Latz has been effective in his own right this year, he has done the lion's share of his work out of the bullpen (26 appearances, three starts). The 29-year-old has posted a 3.05 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and 56:28 K:BB over 59 innings. He'll take on an Angels offense whose .302 wOBA against lefties ranks a middling 17th in the league.Source: Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers announced that left-hander Rob Refsnyder Nearing Return
Rob Refsnyder (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on either Wednesday or Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles. Refsnyder hasn't played since Aug. 13 as a result of a strained left oblique. The right-handed Refsnyder has done most of his damage in his career against southpaws, which has once again been the case this year. Refnysder owns a .905 OPS versus lefties in 2025, while righties have held him to a .646 mark. Overall, the 34-year-old reserve has slashed .272/.357/.471 with six homers, 22 RBI, 23 runs scored, and three steals across 54 games and 157 trips to the plate.Source: MLB.com
The Boston Red Sox plan to activate outfielder Wilyer Abreu Running, Closing in on Return
Wilyer Abreu (calf) ran at 40 to 50 percent intensity on Tuesday as he recovers from a right-calf injury. Abreu, who has been on the 10-day injured list since Aug. 18, is on track to return around Sept. 1. The 26-year-old's injury paved the way for the promotion of well-regarded outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia, but "The Password" has only appeared in two games and gone 0-for-4 in six plate appearances. Abreu, on the other hand, has slashed a strong .253/.325/.486 with 22 homers, 69 RBI, 52 runs scored, and six stolen bases in 395 plate appearances this year. The Red Sox will be glad to get him back for the last month of the season as they try to secure a playoff berth.Source: MLB.com
Boston Red Sox outfielder Daylen Lile Absent Again on Wednesday
Daylen Lile (illness) is out of the lineup against New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried on Wednesday. It'll be the Nationals' fourth game in a row without Lile, who hasn't played since Saturday because of an illness. The 22-year-old has hit a productive .313/.370/.448 with one homer, eight RBI, 11 runs scored, and three steals in 73 plate appearances in August. He could be back in the lineup when the Nationals start a series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday, With Lile out again on Wednesday, the Nats will go with James Wood (left field) and Dylan Crews (right field) in the outfield corners, while Riley Adams will DH, and Drew Millas will catch.Source: MLB.com
Washington Nationals outfielder Jake Fraley to Make Braves Debut on Wednesday
Jake Fraley (knee) will play right field and hit eighth on Wednesday against Miami Marlins starter Ryan Gusto. Fraley is set to make his debut with the Braves, who claimed him on waivers from the Cincinnati Reds on Aug. 21. The 30-year-old hasn't played since Aug. 16 after he hyperextended his right knee in his final game with the Reds, but the Braves opted against placing him on the 10-day injured list. Fraley played in 67 games with the Reds this year and hit .232/.332/.387 with six homers, 23 RBI, and 29 runs scored in 193 plate appearances. He doesn't have a path to regular playing time in Atlanta with Jurickson Profar, Michael Harris II, and Ronald Acuna Jr. as the team's typical outfield alignment. Acuna will serve as the DH on Wednesday, leaving Marcell Ozuna on the bench.Source: MLB.com
