Wilyer Abreu Running, Closing in on Return
Wilyer Abreu (calf) ran at 40 to 50 percent intensity on Tuesday as he recovers from a right-calf injury. Abreu, who has been on the 10-day injured list since Aug. 18, is on track to return around Sept. 1. The 26-year-old's injury paved the way for the promotion of well-regarded outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia, but "The Password" has only appeared in two games and gone 0-for-4 in six plate appearances. Abreu, on the other hand, has slashed a strong .253/.325/.486 with 22 homers, 69 RBI, 52 runs scored, and six stolen bases in 395 plate appearances this year. The Red Sox will be glad to get him back for the last month of the season as they try to secure a playoff berth.
