Pablo Lopez, Twins Closing In On Four-Year Extension
2 years agoThe Minnesota Twins and starting pitcher Pablo Lopez are closing in on a four-year, $73.5 million contract extension on Monday, according to sources. An agreement is expected to be finalized soon. Before the extension, Lopez was set to reach free agency after the 2024 season. The Twins acquired Lopez in the offseason in a trade with the Miami Marlins that sent 2022 American League batting champion Luis Arraez to the Marlins. The 27-year-old Lopez has gotten off to a great start with the Twins, going 1-1 with a stingy 1.73 ERA (2.71 FIP), 0.81 WHIP and career-high 33.7 percent strikeout rate in his first four starts covering 26 innings pitched. A new slider and increased velocity on his fastball have led to more strikeouts so far.
