Orioles Sign Freddy Galvis On Tuesday
4 years agoThe Baltimore Orioles signed free-agent infielder Freddy Galvis to a one-year deal on Tuesday. MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports that Galvis will receive $1.5 million and $250,000 if he's traded. The 31-year-old made 31 starts at shortstop and 11 at second base in 47 games for the Reds in 2020, hitting just .220/.308/.404 (31-for-141) with seven home runs, 18 runs scored and 16 RBI. Galvis did have a career-high 23 home runs and a career-high 70 RBI in 147 games in 2019 while hitting .260/.296/.438. Don't expect him to return to that kind of offensive prowess in Baltimore, but Galvis has been a Gold Glove finalist at shortstop three different times in his career. Galvis has appeared with the Phillies, Padres, Blue Jays and Reds in his nine-year career. He's nothing more than middle-infield depth in AL-only leagues as Baltimore's likely starter at the 6.
