Luis Gil Facing Hitters on Saturday
Luis Gil (lat) is facing hitters on Saturday at Yankee Stadium before the game against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles for the first time since his lat injury in late February during spring training. MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports that Gil's velocity is believed to be in the mid-90s. The 27-year-old is recovering from a right-lat strain that has kept him out for all of the 2025 season so far. He's making progress, but Gil isn't expected to return from the injured list to make his season debut until after the mid-July All-Star break. Gil will need to go on a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment first. The Dominican hurler was named the American League Rookie of the Year in 2024 after going 15-7 with a 3.50 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 171 walks in 151 2/3 innings over 29 starts, but he also walked a league-high 77 batters.
