Najee Harris Ruled Out for Week 3 with Non-Contact Injury
Najee Harris (ankle) rushed for 28 yards on six carries before exiting during the second quarter of Sunday's Week 3 contest against the Denver Broncos. He suffered a non-contact injury and was carted off the field. The team has officially ruled him out for the remainder of the contest, and there's very real concern about his long-term outlook. Although the team is officially calling it an ankle injury, video appeared to show Harris suffering a serious Achilles injury while trying to plant his foot in the backfield. Non-contact Achilles injuries typically come with lengthy recovery timetables, so it's possible that Harris is done for the season. The veteran running back, who never missed a game with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has suddenly faced significant injury trouble in Los Angeles. First, he injured his eye during a fireworks incident over the summer, and now, he's likely done for the year with an Achilles injury. He'll work to recover and get healthy before hitting free agency for the second consecutive offseason next March. In the meantime, Omarion Hampton will take over full possession of the lead-back role while Hassan Haskins offers a change of pace. We'll likely receive more information on Harris' status after he undergoes additional testing.
