Kyle Tucker Says Finger Feels "Fine"
Kyle Tucker (finger) has seen his numbers tumble in recent weeks, perhaps thanks in part to a finger injury he suffered in a 7-3 win over the Reds on June 1. X-rays came back negative on Tucker's jammed right ring finger at the time, but president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer told Jordan Bastian of MLB.com this week that the issue "did bother him for a while." Hoyer isn't sure if the injury is still hampering Tucker, but he added: "There's no question that when you look at his numbers, it's had an impact on him, for sure. That's the nature sometimes of these small injuries -- they can do that." Tucker says he feels "fine," but there's no denying he has slumped for several weeks. Despite the injury, the 28-year-old still posted a .982 OPS with five home runs and 13 RBI in June. However, since the beginning of July, Tucker has gone 20-for-96 (.208) with just one homer and nine RBI in 28 games. Thanks to a hot start, Tucker is still slashing a terrific .271/.384/.474 with 18 homers, 61 RBI, 75 runs scored, and 23 stolen bases in 492 plate appearances. The Cubs and fantasy managers are going to need Tucker to return to his usual form down the stretch, but it could be tough if an injury is hindering him.
