J.J. Wetherholt Stays Hot at the Plate, Swipes Three Bags on Saturday
J.J. Wetherholt went 2-for-3 with a walk and a pair of singles on Saturday for Double-A Springfield. However, the impressive part of his day was the three steals he recorded in the contest. The Cardinals' top-ranked prospect has been hitting well all season, but is scorching since June 3, going 22-for-49 (.449) with four doubles, a triple, a home run, five steals, and a 13:8 BB:K in 14 games. The performance has pushed the left-handed hitter's season-long slash line to .322/.446/.472 with a .426 wOBA and 160 wRC+ in 51 games for Springfield. He's stolen 12 bases as well and is walking more than he is striking out (38:29 BB:K). A test at Triple-A in the coming weeks would be the logical next step, and a September call-up to the majors is still in play. With his all-around skillset, dynasty managers should have a keen interest in the seventh overall pick from the 2024 MLB Draft.
