Indians Close To Deal With Domingo Santana
5 years agoThe Cleveland Indians are close to signing outfielder Domingo Santana to a one-year deal worth just over $1 million on Thursday night. Santana hit .253 (174-for-507) with 21 home runs and 69 RBI for the Mariners in 2019, striking out 164 times in 121 games. He played 59 games in left field last season and 42 in right field while missing time in the second half with a sore right elbow. If the deal goes through, Santana will join a crowded outfield picture that also includes Greg Allen, Jake Bauers, Delino DeShields, Jordan Luplow, Oscar Mercado, Tyler Naquin, Franmil Reyes and Bradley Zimmer. That's a lot of bodies. Santana strikes out way too much and doesn't have much of a glove, so he'd probably be looking at a platoon role in a corner outfield spot with the Tribe.
