Diamondbacks Officially Release Madison Bumgarner
2 years agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks officially released left-hander Madison Bumgarner on Wednesday. Any MLB team can now sign him for the league minimum of $720,000. Bumgarner's time in the desert came to an end last week when Arizona designated him for assignment after his rough start to the 2023 campaign. It was most definitely a tough decision for the D-backs, as they still owe him almost $36 million guaranteed. The four-time All-Star had a 10.26 ERA (8.13 FIP), 2.40 WHIP, 15 walks and 10 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings over four starts to begin the year before being cut. In his four seasons in Arizona, MadBum struggled to a 5.23 ERA (5.18 FIP), 1.38 WHIP and 17.4 percent strikeout rate in 69 starts. He could latch on with another team, but the veteran southpaw's illustrious career is nearing an end.
