Chris Sale Might Not Be Ready For Opening Day
5 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (illness) is dealing with a mild case of pneumonia in camp and "still doesn't have full strength back," according to manager Ron Roenicke. Sale is progressing and playing light catch, but the Red Sox acknowledged that he might not be up to speed by Opening Day, and they don't want to rush him just to have him ready. The left-hander had a down year in 2019 due to injuries and was shut down in August. He went from being a surefire elite No. 1 fantasy starter to being a high-risk, high-reward low-end No. 1 in 2020 drafts. Sale can still strike hitters out at an elite rate, but it's the uncertainty over his left arm that is the concern.
