Brendan McKay To Be Limited To DH Duties
6 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays will limit two-way prospect Brendan McKay to designated hitter duties this spring as they try to maximize his development as a two-way star. The Rays feel McKay's pregame schedule will be simplified if he doesn't have to worry about first base duties. It should also keep him healthier after he has been sidelined the last two years with oblique injuries. The No. 4 pick in the 2017 draft has more upside on the mound at this point and went 5-2 with a 2.41 ERA with 110 strikeouts and 14 walks in 78 1/3 innings in the minors last year. He hit just .214 with six homers, 39 RBI and a .727 OPS. The Rays aren't ruling out McKay returning to first base again, but it probably won't be this year. He's baseball's No. 29 prospect and should be watched in keeper/dynasty leagues.
