Benny Snell Jr. 2019 Outlook: Many Mouths To Feed
6 years agoEvery year of his college career at Kentucky Benny Snell Jr. increased all of his numbers. His carries, yards, touchdowns, and receptions all went up in each of his three seasons. He also ran for over 1,000 yards in all three of those seasons, including his freshman year in which he ran for 1,091 yards on 186 carries.
On a Kentucky team, who unlike the basketball team does not get the five-star recruits, and playing in the SEC this is quite impressive. Coming into the league, it is going to be a tough road for him to have fantasy relevance. Especially as a rookie in a Steelers offense which generally likes to use a bell cow back. At least for this season that bell cow is likely James Conner.
Letting Le’Veon Bell go in free agency shows the confidence the team has in Conner to take over behind the offensive line which allowed Bell all of his success in his years there. If Conner remains healthy, it is his backfield to own. This will make it difficult for Snell or Jaylen Samuels to have any fantasy impact for your redraft team in 2019. Neither is worth a late-round flier, and the only place Snell is valuable is in dynasty leagues where you can take a chance on a future year break. The kind of break Conner received last season.
In those dynasty leagues, Snell is not a bad pick in the third-round of rookie drafts. He is not going to offer a lot this season but if and when his time comes. We have seen he can perform under the lights. At least the closest thing college football has to the NFL. The SEC.
