Ben Gamel Joining Cleveland
4 years agoThe Cleveland Indians signed free-agent outfielder Ben Gamel to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training on Thursday. Gamel had a slash line of .237/.315/.404 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 40 games for the Brewers in the shortened 2020 season. The 28-year-old has bounced around with the Mariners, Yankees and Brewers in five big-league seasons, sporting a career slash line of .261/.331/.388 with a .720 OPS in 442 games. Gamel will be competing this spring to provide quality depth in the outfield behind the likes of Jake Bauers, Jordan Luplow, Oscar Mercado, Josh Naylor, Franmil Reyes, Eddie Rosario and Bradley Zimmer. Even if Gamel makes the major league roster out of camp, he'll likely see very little playing time while coming off the bench.
