Alex Cobb Has Surgery, Unlikely To Be Ready For 2024 Season
1 year agoSan Francisco Giants right-hander Alex Cobb (hip) is scheduled to have surgery on his left hip on Tuesday to address his labrum and ongoing impingement issues, according to the team. It makes him unlikely to be ready for the start of the 2024 season, as he's not expected to return to pitching for six months. Given the fact that Cobb is already 36 years old, the Giants may decide not to pick up his $10 million team option for the 2024 campaign now. Cobb had only 7.8 strikeouts per nine innings in 2023, but he was also a first-time All-Star and went 7-7 with a solid 3.87 ERA (4.01 FIP), 1.32 WHIP, 37 walks and 131 strikeouts in 151 1/3 innings over his 28 starts in his second year in the Bay Area.
