Alex Clemmey Headlines Prospects Acquired By Nationals
Alex Clemmey, shortstop Rafael Ramirez and third baseman Jose Tena on Monday from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for outfielder Lane Thomas, according to a source. Per MLB Pipeline, Clemmey (No. 8) and Ramirez (No. 22) were among Cleveland's top-30 prospects. Clemmey is only 19 years of age and was taken in the second round last year out of high school. He's gone 1-4 with a 4.67 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in his first 19 professional starts at Single-A Lynchburg this year but does have 97 strikeouts in only 69 1/3 innings. Clemmey is a work in progress but is a high-end lefty arm now in Washington's farm system. He's at least several years from a potential big-league debut. Ramirez has hit just .182 with four home runs, 23 RBI and seven steals in 55 games in 2024 for Lynchburg.
