Alex Bregman Remains Absent On Monday
4 months agoHouston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (elbow) remains out of the starting lineup for Monday's series opener at Minute Maid Park against the Boston Red Sox. Rookie infielder Shay Whitcomb will make his third straight start at the hot corner and will bat ninth against Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck. This will be Bregman's fourth straight missed start, and even though he initially said he didn't expect to miss much time due to swelling in the back of his right elbow, this could turn into a stint on the injured list if he's not able to get back on the field by later this week. Whitcomb had two hits in his MLB debut on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox but went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his second game on Sunday in the series finale. Bregman's fantasy managers are keeping their fingers crossed he can return soon, as the 30-year-old two-time All-Star has been on a tear in August, going 18-for-53 (.340) with five homers, five doubles and eight RBI in 12 games.
