MLB Pitcher Prop Bets - Today's Betting Picks
Tyler Mahle OVER 4.5 strikeouts (-130 DraftKings Sportsbook)
The Marlins struggled mightily over the weekend as they struck out a total of 41 times across their four-game series with the Mets. Mahle should be able to cruise to five strikeouts, which is a number he hit in 19 starts in 2022 while also posting a 9.40 K/9.
Nestor Cortes UNDER 6.5 strikeouts (-105 DraftKings Sportsbook)
Vegas has no idea what Cortes is going to do today based on the fact that he is shaded to minus money on both sides of this prop. Make no mistake, 6.5 strikeouts is a high number for a guy's opening start and Cortes does not have the easiest matchup against the Phillies. In 2022, the Phillies posted just a 22.2% K rate vs. lefties, which was near the middle of the pack. Cortes is certainly capable, but this seems like a number you would want on him in the middle of May as opposed to the beginning of April.
Jon Gray OVER than 4.5 strikeouts (-160 DraftKings Sportsbook)
Gray has the ability to be an absolute strikeout machine in 2023. In 2022, he posted a 9.47 K/9 and has room to grow. He struck out at least five in 14 starts in 2022 and has a decent matchup against the Orioles today. In 2022, Baltimore posted a 22.1% K rate vs. right-handed pitchers but also walked at a clip of just 7.8%. Gray should hopefully avoid major trouble in this one.
