Fantasy Baseball Injury Report - Updates for Jackson Merrill, Royce Lewis, Kodai Senga, Cole Ragans, Luke Weaver, Michael King, Bryce Harper, Matt Chapman

Jackson Merrill - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Dr. Reuven Guy's fantasy baseball injury report for Week 12 (2025). Read the latest injury updates for Jackson Merrill, Royce Lewis, Kodai Senga, Cole Ragans, Luke Weaver, Michael King, Bryce Harper, Matt Chapman, more.

This past week, I made a trade in one of my leagues. I traded Yoshinobu Yamamoto for Adolis Garcia and Ryan O'Hearn in a redraft league. When I told a few people of the trade I made, they thought that I overpaid for the hitters. Trades should not be looked at in a vacuum and when reviewing trades, one needs to take a step back and see if the trade is worth it for them.

The reason I made this trade was that I have so many players on my active roster who are on the IL. Desperate times sometimes call for desperate measures. Waiting for injured players to come back from injury could be very costly. We are more than half the season into the fantasy year, and falling behind by not having your high-profile stat accumulator on your active roster could prove costly. Once your team starts to fall behind, a trade may be needed to keep yourself afloat and relevant when July and August come. I will continue to highlight fantasy-relevant injured players, with their return timeline, to better help you navigate the fantasy baseball season.

Here's a little about myself for both new and returning readers. My name is Reuven Guy, and I am a practicing orthopedic/pain management physician assistant. I have been dealing with sports injuries for the past 19+ years. Therefore, I have knowledge of orthopedic injuries and their recovery times based on my medical experience. I also played fantasy baseball during that time. This has helped me get an advantage in this aspect of fantasy baseball, which I hope to share with you. I am also the co-host of the 2025 FSWA award-winning podcast "Beat the Shift." Injured Hitters for Fantasy Baseball

Bryce Harper (1B, PHI)- Wrist

Harper was placed on the IL this week with right wrist inflammation. There is no timeline for his return as he has been fielding grounders but has not yet started throwing or swinging.

Tyler O'Neill (OF, BAL)- Shoulder

O’Neill is on the IL with left shoulder soreness. He has been shut down for a week and had an injection for his shoulder. No timeline for his return yet.

Royce Lewis (3B, MIN)- Hamstring

Lewis landed back on the IL with a left hamstring strain. He missed five and a half weeks already for the same issue earlier this year. This is considered to be a mild strain. Brooks Lee is to see more playing time with Lewis out.

Jackson Merrill (OF, SD)- Head

Merrill is on the concussion IL after suffering a head injury while stealing a base. He could return in seven days and/or when the symptoms resolve. Brandon Lockridge and Tyler Wade should see a boost in playing time with Merrill sidelined.

Yordan Alvarez (OF, HOU)- Hand

Alvarez is on the IL with right-hand inflammation. He remains shut down and has not yet begun swinging a bat. There is no clear timeline for his return.

Anthony Santander (OF, TOR)- Shoulder

Santander was placed on the IL with left shoulder inflammation. He has received a PRP injection and has begun throwing. Santander has not yet begun swinging a bat, and there is no timeline for his return.

Matt Chapman (3B, SF)- Hand

Chapman is on the IL with a sprained right hand and wrist. An MRI confirmed the sprain. Chapman has been cleared to begin rehabbing by the end of this week and should return in about three to four weeks, barring any setbacks.

Ezequiel Tovar (SS, COL)- Oblique

Tovar was placed on the IL this past week with a left oblique strain. He has begun jogging but does not have a timeline for a return.

Daulton Varsho (OF, TOR)- Hamstring

Varsho is on the IL with a Grade 1 strain of the left hamstring. He is going through a running progression and could start a rehab assignment soon.

Noelvi Marte (3B, CIN)- Oblique

Marte is on the IL with an oblique strain. Marte is targeting June 20 as the day he hopes to begin a rehab assignment.

Garrett Mitchell (OF, MIL)- Oblique

Mitchell is on the IL with a left oblique strain for the past few weeks. He is now at Triple-A on a rehab assignment and could return sometime by the end of next week.

Miguel Andujar (DH, ATH)- Oblique

Andujar was placed on the IL with an oblique strain. He has a Grade 2 strain and is expected to be out “a couple of weeks.” A Grade 2 strain typically has a four- to six-week recovery time.

Mark Vientos (3B, NYM)- Hamstring

Vientos is on the IL with a right hamstring strain. He is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment next week and could return by the end of next week. With Brett Baty dealing with a minor groin issue, Ronny Mauricio has been seeing more playing time for the Mets.

 Wilyer Abreu (OF, BOS)- Oblique

Abreu was placed on the IL with a strained left oblique. He has begun a rehab assignment and could return to the Red Sox as early as this weekend.

Yoan Moncada (3B, LAA)- Knee

Moncada is on the IL with right knee inflammation. He has only now begun hitting off a tee and does not have a clear timeline for return.

Ha-Seong Kim (SS, TB)- Shoulder

Kim is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He was pulled off his rehab assignment due to right hamstring tightness. There is no timeline for his return to the rehab assignment.

Injured Starting Pitchers for Fantasy Baseball

Cole Ragans (SP, KC)- Shoulder

Ragans is on the IL with a left rotator cuff strain. An MRI showed a strain, and he went for a second opinion on his injured shoulder. He is to be shut down for four weeks from the time of the injury and re-evaluated then.

Tyler Glasnow (SP, LAD)- Shoulder

Glasnow left his last start and was placed on the IL due to right shoulder inflammation. Glasnow threw live batting practice this week, and if he recovers well, he could start a rehab assignment very soon.

 Nathan Eovaldi (SP, TEX)- Elbow

Eovaldi was placed on the IL with right posterior elbow (triceps) inflammation. Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said that Eovaldi is “trending in the right direction” after throwing a bullpen session. He may still need a rehab assignment game. If this is true, expect Eovaldi to be back in a little under two weeks.

Kodai Senga (SP, NYM)- Hamstring

Senga injured his hamstring covering first base last week. It is a Grade 1 sprain and will be shut down for about two weeks and re-evaluated then. Paul Blackburn will slide into the Mets rotation for Senga.

Tyler Mahle (SP, TEX)- Shoulder

Mahle is on the IL with shoulder soreness. Severity is not known, but this is the same type of injury he had last year, which caused him to miss time. There is no timeline for his return.

Max Meyer (SP, MIA)- Hip

Meyer landed on the IL due to a left hip impingement. He will be out for the next few weeks as there is no timeline for his return. He did, however, start playing catch this week. He is scheduled to see a hip specialist to be further evaluated.

Michael King (SP, SD)- Shoulder

King was placed on the IL with right shoulder inflammation. His rehab has been put on hold. Padres manager Mike Shildt said last week that King was "in a holding pattern…until [King] can pick up a baseball and throw it consistently, there's really no planning." There is no timeline for his return.

Bowden Francis (SP, TOR)- Shoulder

Francis was placed on the IL this week due to right shoulder impingement. Severity is not yet known, and there is no timeline for his return.

Tylor Megill (SP, NYM)- Elbow

Megill was placed on the IL this week with a right elbow sprain. The MRI came back clean, no structural damage. He is shut down now and will be re-evaluated soon. Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea should both be back soon from the IL to help bolster the Mets starting rotation.

Aaron Nola (SP, PHI)- Ankle

Nola was placed on the IL with a right ankle sprain. He has been shut down for the past two weeks and could be out until after the All-Star break.

Zebby Matthews (SP, MIN)- Shoulder

Matthews is on the IL with a right shoulder strain. He was diagnosed with a moderate subscapularis strain in his right shoulder. This muscle is part of the rotator cuff. He is currently in a no-throw period. There is no timeline for his return.

Reese Olson (SP, DET)- Finger

Olson was placed on the IL with right ring finger inflammation. He has begun a rehab assignment and could return to the Tigers rotation by the end of next week.

Brandon Woodruff (SP, MIL)- Shoulder

Woodruff continues to rehab from shoulder surgery last year and is on the IL. He was on a rehab assignment and was hit by a comebacker. Woodruff threw a bullpen session this week and will need one or two more rehab starts before being activated from the IL.

Max Scherzer (SP, TOR)- Thumb/Lat/Back

Scherzer left his last start with a lat issue and has dealt with thumb and back issues since. He has had two rehab starts and could return from the IL as early as next week.

Shota Imanaga (SP, CHC)- Hamstring

Imanaga is on the IL with a hamstring strain. Imanaga needs one more rehab start and should be activated from the IL next week.

Luis Gil (SP, NYY)- Lat

Gil has been on the IL with a lat strain since early this year. Gil is set to face live hitters this weekend. He has a possible return timeline after the All-Star break.

Frankie Montas (SP, NYM)- Lat

Montas suffered a lat injury in March and is on a rehab assignment. He could return from the IL as early as next week.

Marcus Stroman (SP, NYY)- Knee

Stroman has been on the IL since April 11 with left knee inflammation. He is on a rehab assignment and could return from the IL by the end of next week.

Injured Relief Pitchers for Fantasy Baseball

Luke Weaver (RP, NYY)- Hamstring

Weaver is on the IL with a left hamstring strain. He threw a bullpen session this week and could return to the Yankees bullpen within the next two weeks. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said this week that Weaver may not need a rehab assignment, which would move up his activation time.

Liam Hendriks (RP, BOS)- Hip

Hendriks is on the IL with right hip inflammation. He has begun a throwing program but remains a few weeks away from a return.

Porter Hodge (RP, CHC)- Oblique

Hodge was placed on the IL with a left oblique strain. He is on a rehab assignment and could return to the Cubs bullpen as early as next week.

Justin Martinez (RP, ARI)- Elbow

Martinez was placed on the IL with a sprained UCL in his right elbow. Martinez requires Tommy John surgery and is done for the year.

A.J. Puk (RP, ARI)- Elbow

Puk is on the IL with elbow inflammation. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that Puk will visit Dr. Neal ElAttrache after experiencing some left elbow discomfort. There is no timeline for his return.
