FAAB Waiver Wire Bidding - Fantasy Baseball Pickups to Target for Week 23 (September 1 - September 7)

Matt Wallner - fantasy baseball draft sleepers DFS MLB injury news

Andy's FAAB fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups and bidding guide for Week 23 (September 1 - September 7). His recommended FAAB dollars to spend on waiver wire adds.

Happy Saturday, RotoBallers! We are nearing the stretch run of the baseball season, but that does not mean we can abandon our teams. There are still several high-end players available on the waiver wire that can be the difference between us winning or losing our leagues.

Our series about FAAB fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups continues as we head into Week 23 of the 2025 MLB season -- September 1 through September 7. This waiver wire article will recommend free agents to target and how much FAAB you should allocate for them.

Each week, I will break down at least one player from each position with ownership percentages under 40 percent in Yahoo! leagues who could improve your roster and provide you with an added boost in several categories. Be sure to follow RotoBaller MLB and me on X for all your fantasy baseball needs this season. Let's get to it!

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Hitters to Target

Kyle Teel, C, Chicago White Sox

15% rostered
FAAB Bid: <10% if you need a catcher

The Chicago rookie has been featured in my column several times following his MLB promotion. Despite playing on a subpar Chicago team, Teel has continued to find success. Over his last eight contests, Teel has posted a .500/.545/.733 line with a double, two home runs, and a 4:3 K:BB.

Through 53 total games in the big leagues, Teel has posted a strong .295/.382/.416 line with eight doubles, four home runs, and two stolen bases. His production should remain quite stable, given the .280 xBA and .366 xwOBA under the hood.

Drake Baldwin, C, Atlanta Braves

25% rostered
FAAB Bid: <12% if you need a catcher

Despite playing in a timeshare, Baldwin has continued to find success in the Atlanta lineup. Since the All-Star break, Baldwin has held a .272/.341/.412 line with seven doubles, three home runs, and a 20:11 K:BB.

Under the hood, Baldwin carries an 86th percentile xwOBA with a 91st percentile bat speed. While his playing time can be frustrating with Sean Murphy seeing consistent at-bats and Marcell Ozuna typically occupying the DH spot, Baldwin is still a top-12 catcher when in the lineup.

Other C to consider: Dillon Dingler DET

Spencer Horwitz,1B/2B, Pittsburgh Pirates

10% rostered
FAAB Bid: <7%

Spencer Horwitz continues to produce at a high level. Over his last nine contests, Horwitz has posted a .265/.324/.529 slash line with three doubles, two home runs, and a 3:3 K:BB.

During this stretch, he has crossed home plate eight times and tallied five RBI. After the Midsummer classic, Horwitz has posted an impressive .290/.362/.476 line. Given his role as the typical one/two-hole hitter, he is a top option to fill a middle or corner infield position.

Nathaniel Lowe, 1B, Washington Nationals

25% rostered
FAAB Bid: <10%

Even though he is currently on paternity leave, that should not deter you from picking up the newly acquired Boston Red Sox. Since joining Boston, Lowe has found his swing, posting a strong .296/.375/.481 line with two doubles and a home run.

Even though he struggled in D.C. throughout most of the year, managers looking to bolster their counting stats, especially RBI, should look at adding Lowe, as he will continue to do so at the heart of the Boston lineup as they look to claim a Wild Card spot.

Other 1B to consider: Jared Triolo PIT, Kyle Manzardo CLE

Jeff McNeil, 2B/OF, New York Mets

10% rostered
FAAB Bid: <15%

The 33-year-old has continued to be a reliable bat in the heart of the Mets lineup. Over his last 13 contests, the second baseman/outfielder has held a .280/.327/.540 line wth four doubles, three home runs. During this stretch, McNeil has scored nine runs and tallied an impressive 13 RBI.

McNeil is a top target this week in points formats, given his remarkable 11.0% K rate. Managers in the category formats who are looking to bolster their continuing stats and increase their batting average should look to take a flier on a former Batting Title champion.

Other 2Bs to consider: Jared Triolo PIT, Spencer Horwitz PIT

Jared Triolo, 1B/2B/3B/SS, Pittsburgh Pirates

10% rostered
FAAB Bid: <7%

Like his teammate mentioned earlier, Horwitz, Triolo has quietly been one of the top assets when looking to boost your batting average over the past two weeks. Over his last 13 games, the multi-positional infielder has posted a .395/.490/.651 line with three doubles, two home runs, and an impressive four stolen bases.

While his modest .240 xBA may cause some hesitation, since the All-Star break, Triolo has held a remarkable .329 AVG. His power and counting stats are tough to trust in this lineup, but if you are looking for a cheap asset to boost your batting average, target Triolo.

Jordan Lawlar, 3B/SS, Arizona Diamondbacks

10% rostered
FAAB Bid: <13%

On Friday evening, the Diamondbacks announced that they would be giving their top prospect Jordan Lawlar a third look in the minor leagues. While his career .080/.179/.080 does not jump off the age; Lawlar has been an elite producer at Triple-A this season.

Through 632 games with the Reno Aces, the former first-round pick has hit 11 home runs and swiped 20 bases. Despite his struggles during his first stints in the big leagues, he is a must-add given his five-category skill set.

Other 3B to consider:  Jared Triolo PIT, Caleb Durbin MIL

Carson Williams, SS, Tampa Bay Rays

10% rostered
FAAB Bid: <8%

While the sample size may be small, Williams has looked rather impressive over his first five MLB games. During this brief stint, Williams has posted a .316 AVG with two doubles, one home run, and a stolen base.

Earlier in the season at Triple-A, Williams flashed high power upside but also showed some red flags, especially when looking at his K%. Managers looking to find a power boost for their infield should look at adding Williams, who has already launched 23 home runs in 11 games at the Triple-A league this season. Just don't expect his batting average to remain this high.

Other SS to consider: Jared Triolo PIT, Caleb Durbin MIL, Blaze Alexander ARI

Matt Wallner, OF, Minnesota Twins

10% rostered
FAAB Bid: <20%

Wallner has been a tough hitter to trust for fantasy throughout his career, as he has had stretches of brilliance and stretches where he was un-rosterable. However, it appears Wallner is enjoying a more positive stretch, which has brought him back to the fantasy radar.

Over his last nine games, Wallner has posted an elite .963 OPS with four home runs. His high 14.8% barrel rate under the hood suggests this power surge can be sustainable over the final month.

Luis Matos, OF, San Francisco Giants

5% rostered
FAAB Bid: <7%

Since returning to San Francisco, Matos has posted an impressive .409/.458/.909 line three doubles, two home runs, and two stolen bases through a six-game stint. While his career .228/.278/.370 line does not instill much confidence; the young outfielder was enjoying a productive season at Triple-A before the promotion.

Before returning to the Bay Area, Matos held a .885 OPS over his last 11 games. The 23-year-old could finally be taking the next step.

Dylan Beavers, OF, Baltimore Orioles

12% rostered
FAAB Bid: <10%

The final outfielder we will examine this week was once considered a top stash option. Since making his long-awaited MLB debut, Beavers has tallied a hit in all but two games (out of 10) and held a strong .344/.475/.563 line. He has gone deep once and added four doubles.

Earlier in the summer, Beavers flashed high power upside and immense speed production at Triple-A. Given his five-category skill set, he is a must-add in all formats.

Other OFs to consider: Jeff McNeil NYM, Miguel Andujar CIN, Mike Yastrzemski KC

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers to Target

Jonah Tong, SP, New York Mets

10% rostered
FAAB Bid: <15%

After promoting Nolan McLean earlier this month, the Mets opted to add another budding ace to their rotation. On Friday, Tong made his MLB debut against the Miami Marlins and tossed five innings of four-run ball (one earned run) with six punchouts and no walks.

Earlier in the summer, Tong breezed through Double-A and Triple-A, logging 113 2/3 innings to the tune of a 1.50 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a dominant 179:47 K:BB.

Luis Morales, SP, Athletics

15% rostered
FAAB Bid: <12%

Despite not having much success in the minor leagues this season (especially at Triple-A), Morales has been very productive since joining the major leagues. In fact, he's been one of the most productive pitchers since the start of the month. Over his first five MLB appearances (four starts), Morales has posted an elite 1.19 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP.

In his last outing, Morales tossed seven shutout innings against the high-powered Detroit Tigers. While his 4.64 xERA suggests regression, given his impressive debut, he is worth a look in all formats.

Other SPs to consider: Ryan Bergert KC, Payton Tolle BOS, Cristian Javier HOU

Ryan Walker, RP, San Francisco Giants

45% rostered
FAAB Bid: <30% if needing saves

Walker was a popular middle-round pick this spring as he opened the season as the Giants' closer. However, he was quickly removed from the job when he posted a 6.43 ERA over his first 14 innings of work.

However, with Randy Rodriguez (elbow) on the IL and Camilo Doval now in the Bronx, Walker has earned a second chance in this role. In his last four appearances, Walker has logged 4 2/4 innings with two saves and seven strikeouts. Despite his early-season struggles, Walker was a top relief pitcher last season, which is worth spending on if you need saves.

Abner Uribe, RP, Milwaukee Brewers

10% rostered
FAAB Bid: <12% if needing saves

Another high-end reliever who could benefit from an injury is Uribe. With Trevor Megill (elbow) hitting the 15-day IL, the setup man Uribe is slated to take over ninth-inning duties for a red-hot Brewers team.

He tallied a save on August 25 and has held an overall 1.71 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and a 78:24 K:BB with 36 holds through 63 1/3 innings this season.

Other RP to consider for saves: Jose A. Ferrer WSH, Victor Vodnik COL

Fantasy Baseball Prospects to Monitor

Kristian Campbell, 2B/OF, Boston Red Sox

15% rostered
FAAB Bid: <2%

Once again, Campbell will represent the stash section of our piece. Over the last 15 games with Triple-A Worcester, Campbell has posted a remarkable .323/.382/.516 line with three doubles and three home runs.

While Lowe's emergence does lower Campbell's short-term stock, he should still be in them to join Boston as they approach the postseason.

Other prospects to monitor: Andrew Painter PHI
