Deeper Hitter Pickups for Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Report for Week 11

Akil Baddoo - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Deeper fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for hitters focused on deeper leagues with 12 or 14+ teams. Consider adding these free-agent hitters for Week 11.

We’re coming up on Week 11 of the fantasy baseball season. The season seems to enter a slight lull in June, but you can't afford to rest now. Fantasy baseball necessitates hyper-vigilance, especially in deeper leagues where the waiver wires are quickly stripped of talent. This weekly article will outline the upcoming schedule, two-start pitchers, and a few waiver targets that are rostered in less than 5% of leagues.

It’s good practice to maximize at-bats and starts. A quick look at upcoming schedules for the 11th week of the MLB season could end up giving you the edge in this week’s play. There are plenty of two-start pitchers this week who should end up providing great value.

This article will discuss some deeper-league fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for Week 11, June 5 through June 11. While the season may have settled in, the waiver wires are still hot. Rostered percentages can change quickly. So be quick to check your leagues for their availability. Key point -- this list will focus on rostered players in less than 5% of Yahoo! leagues.

Fantasy Baseball Schedule Outlook

This week has some great schedules to target for fantasy. There is only one team with five games on their schedule. Seven teams have a full slate of games this week, so there are a couple of players who will provide extra at-bats this week.

In this week’s weather report: a few scattered showers in the early morning across the country, but nothing that'll cause any postponements this week.

  • Seven Games - BOS, HOU, TB, TOR, CHC, CIN, MIL
  • Six Games - MIN, TEX, PIT, LAD, NYM, WAS, BAL, NYY, CWS, DET, OAK, ATL, MIA, PHI, SF, CLE, LAA, MIN, ARI, COL, KC, STL
  • Five Games - SEA

Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitchers

With the season settling in, there are starting pitchers of varying quality in this week’s two-start list. For more insight, check out my article on this week’s two-start pitchers.

Deeper Infield Waiver Wire Pickups

Jordan Westburg (SS), Baltimore Orioles - 5% Rostered

Through 49 games with Triple-A Norfolk, Jordan Westburg is slashing a spectacular .308/.379/.607 with 15 home runs, 47 runs, 48 RBI, and four stolen bases.

Major-league starting shortstop Jorge Mateo has plummeted back down to earth with a .136/.172/.159 slash line since the start of May. In that same span, Jordan Westburg has a 1.028 OPS, 10 home runs, 25 RBI, and 30 runs. It shouldn't be long before Westburg is on the 26-man roster. If you missed out on Elly De La Cruz, Jordan Westburg is a mighty fine consolation prize in the stashable shortstop prospect department.

Gary Sanchez (C), San Diego Padres - 4% Rostered

After being released by the New York Mets, Gary Sanchez quickly found a new home in San Diego. Since his arrival, Sanchez has started every game, going 4-for-14 with two home runs, three runs, and four RBI. While it is a small sample size, Sanchez will make regular starts for a Padres team that is missing catcher Luis Campusano and DH Nelson Cruz. There are no guarantees with the 30-year-old vet, but there are few, if any, catchers left on waiver wires that are in line for regular plate appearances.

Miguel Rojas (1B/SS), Los Angeles Dodgers - 1% Rostered

The winner of the "Most Unlucky Hitter in Baseball" award through two months this year is Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas, with a wOBA that is 89 points lower than his expected wOBA!

Rojas' horrific .496 OPS has doomed him to fantasy irrelevance, but the 34-year-old is still an everyday shortstop with the 35-23 Los Angeles Dodgers. He'll keep getting chances to break whatever curse was put upon him. And if he gets anywhere close to his .285 xBA, he'll be incredibly productive in fantasy.

Deeper Outfield Waiver Wire Pickups

Akil Baddoo (OF), Detroit Tigers - 4% Rostered

After starting the season at Triple-A, Akil Baddoo has settled nicely into an everyday outfield role. Through 44 games, he is slashing .256/.363/.384 with three home runs, 16 RBI, 16 runs, and five stolen bases. He's made strides with plate discipline, resulting in a 14.3% walk rate and a career-low 19% strikeout rate. Akil Baddoo should be rostered in deeper leagues.

Jesus Sanchez (OF), Miami Marlins - 3% Rostered

After a short injured-list stint, Jesus Sanchez is back in the saddle. He's been fantastic this season, slashing .316/.379/.582 with four home runs, 12 RBI, 12 runs, and three stolen bases through 33 games. He's still swinging out of his shoes with a 27.6% strikeout rate and 14.1% SwStr% rate on the season, but a 45.5% sweet-spot rate has kept him lethal offensively.

With improved outfield defense, Sanchez has come into his own as a major-league starter and should remain productive in fantasy.

Colton Cowser (OF), Baltimore Orioles - 4% Rostered

Colton Cowser has slashed .394/.528/.679 with seven home runs, 39 runs, and 24 RBI in his last 30 games with Triple-A Norfolk. But a quad issue has had him missing in action since May 16. With the recently-exiled Aaron Hicks making three straight starts with the Orioles, it's no question that Cowser would've been starting in the Baltimore outfield by now.

He returned to Norfolk on Saturday. If he hits the ground running, he should soon be up at the major-league level. Stash Cowser immediately.

Brenton Doyle (OF), Colorado Rockies - 4% Rostered

HOLD...THE...LINE!

Brenton Doyle has a 36.4% strikeout rate and a .312 wOBA, but he's also had four home runs, eight steals, 16 runs, and 15 RBI in just 31 major-league games. With counting stats like those and elite defense production to boot (3 OAA), the 25-year-old should stick as the everyday centerfielder.

The Rockies are at home for the entire week. Pull the trigger on Doyle for his everyday role, elite speed, and solid power.
