BALLER MOVE: Sell Bo Bichette
ANALYSIS: Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette has had a rough start to the 2024 season. The 26-year-old posted a disappointing .205/.262/.295 line with just one home run through his first 29 games.
This is a stark contrast when compared to his previous two seasons, during which he tallied at least 20 long balls and posted solid batting averages of .290 and .306.
A look under the hood shows that Bichette’s metrics have taken a stark decline, suggesting that Bichette may be in for a rough summer.
The two-time All-Star has a .267 xwOBA, .221 xBA, 2.1% barrel rate, and .327 xSLG, which place him near the bottom tenth percentile in all four stats among qualified hitters. Last season, Bichette looked like a completely different hitter, as he posted a .312 xBA, which was in the top 2% of all hitters, and a strong .502 xSLG.
One reason for this decline is that Bichette has seen his ground ball rate jump up five percent and seen his line drive rate plummet by ten percent this season.
I would advise moving off Bichette if you can as these metrics do not suggest a quick turnaround.
