BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ team leagues
ROSTERED IN: 11% of leagues
ANALYSIS: A few weeks ago, Blake Perkins was struggling to find at-bats. With the Brewers offense off to a hot start, there was little reason to shake things up by mixing in the 27-year-old outfielder. He started on Opening Day but didn’t make another appearance until April 7. With Christian Yelich going down with a back strain, Perkins finally got his shot at regular play and is making the most of it.
So far this season, Perkins owns a lofty .354 batting average with 13 runs scored, two home runs, and two stolen bases in 13 games played. He’s reached base in all but one of those games and has a modest 22.2% K%. In his last seven games, he is hitting .385 and has a 1.044 OPS. The numbers are boosted by an unsustainable .441 BABIP, but while he is running hot, he will be a good source for runs, batting average, and stolen bases.
Yelich is eligible to return on April 23, but there have been no updates on the former MVP’s status in the meantime. The Brewers may give him some extra time to recover due to his history of back issues. Until Yelich returns, Perkins should remain Milwaukee’s primary center fielder. Not only is he doing his part on offense, but his outstanding defense should keep him in the lineup. Perkins is worth a look in 12-teamers if you need a temporary replacement for a slumping outfielder.
