Seahawks tight end (TE) Greg Olsen is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free agent addition for Week 5 of the 2020 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED: 22% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Greg Olsen has been a staple tight end in the NFL for 13 years now, and after an incredibly successful nine-year stint with the Carolina Panthers, there was plenty of uncertainty as to how he would adjust in his first season with the Seattle Seahawks at the age of 35, particularly after struggling with injuries over the past few campaigns. Luckily, to help navigate the learning curve, Russell Wilson is off to an MVP-caliber start, and G-Reg has taken full advantage of his quarterback's hot hand by starting on rock-solid footing, garnering ample attention in the passing game and establishing himself as one of Seattle's most consistent options.
To be fair, he performed a disappearing act in Week Two against the Patriots, but that is not all too concerning when factoring in the time it would take for the appropriate chemistry to be established and the fact that the Hawks feature a strong running game and multiple receiving options that Wilson can seemingly find at will. He started Week One with four catches on four targets, good for 24 yards and an encouraging touchdown. After being a non-factor the following week, Olsen has seen the volume of attention you would hope to see, getting six targets against Dallas and seven targets against Miami, reeling in five balls in each contest for totals of 61 and 35 receiving yards respectively.
He has been steadily seeing fewer offensive snaps since Week Two, dropping from 71% to 56% in that small sample, but Seattle is making fantastic use of the veteran TE in his time on the field. He currently ranks fourth on his squad in receiving yards at 120 behind D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and David Moore, but he ranks third in targets (18), and is beating out Moore in receptions (14), though Chris Carson has surpassed him thus far in that category by a single haul. He's probably past the golden days of totaling 800-1,000+ yards in a season, but now that he is one of the primary options on the passing-game radar, and Russell Wilson is churning out more than enough offense to go around, Greg Olsen is one of the most reliable options at his position that you can still grab without having to trade for it.
