Carolina Hurricanes defenseman K'Andre Miller (upper body) is expected to play in Thursday's season opener against the New Jersey Devils, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Miller had offseason upper-body surgery and sat out the entire preseason schedule. However, he will be ready for his Hurricanes debut on Thursday. The 25-year-old is projected to start life on his new team as a member of the second defensive pairing. We should also see Miller skate with the second power-play unit. Miller has been a two-way force during his NHL career but is coming off a disappointing year. During his final season with the New York Rangers, Miller was limited to 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists) in 74 games.--Taavi Pailk
