San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer has been activated from the injured list ahead of Saturday’s contest against the D-backs and right-hander Merrill Kelly. Hosmer has been out of the lineup since July 28 as he has battled gastritis, but he rejoins the starting nine to hit fifth Saturday, allowing rookie Jake Cronenworth to slide over to second base. In the limited action that Hosmer has seen, he has mashed the ball at a 1.583 OPS clip over his first three games, plating seven runs. An already tough Padres lineup gains another substantial bat in the middle of the order, giving Kelly a tall task in his third start. Until he cools off, Hosmer is an option in any sized season-long format. --Jesse BorekRead More News
