When Will Trey Benson Return and Be Back? Fantasy Football Injury Update for Week 15 (2025)

Trey Benson - Fantasy Football Rankings, RB, NFL Draft Sleepers,

When will Trey Benson return and play? Will Trey Benson be back again this season? Read the latest Trey Benson injury updates and return date for Week 15 (2025).

Second-year running back Trey Benson showed some very positive signs early this season that he could be a breakout performer if he got enough of the Arizona timeshare from veteran James Conner. Conner went down with a season-ending injury, opening the door for a Benson breakout.

Unfortunately, though, Benson sustained an injury the very next week and hasn't been able to get back on the field since then.

When will Benson return to action, and what is his fantasy football outlook when he does? Let's dive in.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Trey Benson Injury Update

Benson suffered a meniscus injury in his knee towards the end of Week 4's loss to the Seahawks. The news of the injury didn't really break until the Monday after that Thursday Night Football loss, and at the time, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the injury was “not thought to be serious.” However, Benson ended up needing arthroscopic surgery and was placed on IR.

He was eligible to be activated from IR in Week 10, but he didn't have his practice window opened until Nov. 19, as the team was preparing for Week 12. When a player on IR has their practice window opened, the team has 21 days to either activate that player or leave them on IR for the rest of the season. Benson hits that 21-day mark this week, but he still hasn't been activated and may have even suffered a setback.

He got in limited practices for the first week after the window was open, but hasn't been able to practice at all in the last few weeks. It isn't clear if he suffered a setback or is just having trouble ramping up to a larger workload, but the team doesn't seem confident that he'll be ready to return this season.

On Sunday, Adam Schefter reported that there was "a real chance" he would not be activated before his window closes and he is ruled out for the rest of the season. Coach Jonathan Gannon definitely didn't seem confident that Benson would return this week when he was asked about it on Monday:

However, on Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the team will not open his practice window, keeping him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Trey Benson Fantasy Football Outlook

Benson showed some intriguing upside early in the year with some explosive runs.

He played as the clear top running back in the one game he played without Conner, and would have claimed the lead role if he were able to return.

With Benson now out for the final month of the season, Bam Knight and Michael Carter would likely continue to share time in the backfield, with Emari Demercado (ankle) in the mix as well if he can return from his injury. Recently, Knight has been the early-down and goalline option with Carter as the primary receiver out of the backfield. Of the three, Demercado brings the most upside but also the most risk, especially given his injury situation.

Benson should be dropped in all redraft formats.
