Fantasy Football Drop Candidates
Read the recent news and fantasy outlooks of some of the top cut candidates:
Emari Demercado, RB - Arizona Cardinals (Cut List Ranking No. 15)
Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon reported on Thursday that running back Emari Demercado will not be punished for costing the team a touchdown in their loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 5. "It's the best thing for the team," said Gannon. Demercado egregiously lost a handle on the football last weekend as he pulled up early before crossing the goal line on a breakaway run.
However, it doesn't appear that the head coach will dock him playing time, despite his visible frustration on the sideline following the blunder. In somewhat of a surprise, backfield mate Michael Carter seized the team's primary rushing role following Trey Benson's (knee) injury, and that should be the case again in Week 6. Demercado will operate on third downs and as a change-of-pace option.
Darius Slayton, WR - New York Giants (Cut List Ranking No. 16)
New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) has been ruled out for the Thursday night divisional game in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Dan Salomone of Giants.com. This was the expected result after Slayton injured his hamstring on Sunday in the Week 5 loss to the New Orleans Saints. He was unable to practice leading up to Thursday's game.
The good news is that the 28-year-old will have extra time to get ready for a potential return in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos. Without Slayton in the fold in a tough matchup against Philly, Wan'Dale Robinson should be the favorite target of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart in the passing game, with Jalin Hyatt and Beaux Collins also starting in three-wide sets.
Tight ends Theo Johnson and Daniel Bellinger should also be more involved in the passing attack on Thursday.
Woody Marks, RB - Houston Texans (Cut List Ranking No. 24)
ESPN's Dan Graziano writes that the Houston Texans still view rookie running back Woody Marks as "predominantly a passing-game back," and one who "had a bit of an injury history in college." It was looking like Marks was taking over the backfield from veteran Nick Chubb when he had a season-high 17 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown while adding four catches for 50 yards and another TD in the Week 4 win against the Tennessee Titans.
However, he was a disappointment in last week's blowout win over the Baltimore Ravens, handling seven carries for 24 yards and failing to reel in his only pass-game target. It means that when Houston is up big, like they were in Baltimore, Chubb will continue to have the playing-time advantage. Marks is still worth rostering in all fantasy leagues, but his backfield takeover in Houston appears to be a little premature.
Brock Purdy, QB - San Francisco 49ers (Cut List Ranking No. 23)
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) has officially been ruled out for Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic. Purdy was unable to practice all week, although he was seen working on side fields with trainers. The 25-year-old will now miss his second straight game (fourth overall this year) after aggravating a turf-toe injury in Week 4.
The Niners have been mum on when Purdy might be able to return to the starting role under center, with his next chance at doing so coming in Week 7 versus the Atlanta Falcons. Backup Mac Jones (knee, oblique) is listed as questionable with multiple injuries this weekend, but he's expected to make his fourth start of the year. Jones has been battling a knee injury since early in the year, but despite that, he's managed to play effectively and efficiently with Purdy out.
Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting a second straight 300-yard game from Jones, but he'll be in play as a low-end QB2 streamer in superflex leagues.
Chris Godwin, WR - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Cut List Ranking No. 25)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (leg) is not expected to play in the Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers after he missed practice all week. Godwin's fibula injury is in a different area than the fracture he suffered when he dislocated his ankle last October. Right now, he will be week-to-week, depending on how he progresses, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.
The Bucs have no plans to place Godwin on Injured Reserve at this time, according to sources. Godwin made his 2025 debut in Week 4, but now he's injured again and could miss multiple games. Mike Evans (hamstring) is going to miss another game, too, leaving rookie first-rounder Emeka Egbuka and Sterling Shepard as the team's top two wideouts.
Tez Johnson should also have an elevated role, and tight end Cade Otton figures to draw more looks in the passing game.
Elic Ayomanor, WR - Tennessee Titans (Cut List Ranking No. 20)
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Elic Ayomanor had a two-catch, 18-yard showing in the Week 5 meeting with the Arizona Cardinals. While that performance didn't sit well with fantasy managers, the rookie has played relatively well in an offense that's struggled throughout the 2025 campaign. In Ayomanor's first five games in the league, he's totaled 14 grabs (29 targets) for 169 yards.
He also leads the team with two receiving touchdowns. With the Titans coming off their first win of the year, Tennessee will look to pick up another victory on Sunday against the Raiders. Without question, Las Vegas hasn't looked the best either, so Cam Ward and company have a chance to get something going on the offensive end.
However, even with a favorable opportunity on the horizon, Ayomanor's lack of volume this season means he'll need to find the end zone, or fantasy managers will likely be extremely disappointed. With that in mind, the 22-year-old can be viewed as a desperation flex choice in 12-team leagues and up.
