ANALYSIS: The Reds selected the hard-throwing right-hander, Chase Burns, with the second pick in last year's MLB Draft out of Wake Forest. The Reds opted for the 22-year-old to make his professional debut at the start of this season, and not during the final months of the 2024 campaign, like fellow rookies did, such as Jac Caglianone, Nick Kurtz, and Travis Bazzana.
Burns opened the season with High-A Dayton and needed just three starts to prove he was ready for a promotion. Across three starts (11 2/3 innings), Burns tallied 20 strikeouts while holding a 3.09 ERA and a stellar 0.86 WHIP.
Then, with Double-A, Burns has continued to dominate. Through his first 42 frames, Burns has held a near-perfect 1.29 ERA with a 0.71 WHIP. The right-hander has struck out 55 batters while allowing just four walks.
On Sunday evening, Burns received some very positive news as he earned a promotion to Triple-A. Burns is now just one stop away from the major leagues and is approaching his MLB debut much faster than expected. Burns is developing into the top pitching prospect in baseball.
