ANALYSIS: Minnesota Twins right-handed pitcher Zebby Matthews was recently promoted to make his second appearance in the majors. The Twins gave Matthews the call on May 18 after they optioned Simeon Woods Richardson to Triple-A St. Paul.

During his first outing of the season against the Brewers, Matthews stumbled as he allowed four runs and five hits across just three innings. In this start, he struck out five and served up three walks.

However, in his next outing, Mattews returned to form as he logged four innings of two-run ball with a stellar 9:1 K:BB. On Saturday, Matthews made his third start of the campaign against the Mariners. He had a rough opening frame as he allowed four runs, but was able to overcome the rough start as he finished the game, logging six straight shutout innings.

In this start, Matthews struck out seven batters and allowed just one walk.

After giving up a 4-run first inning to the Mariners, Zebby Matthews settled in to give the Twins six scoreless innings following.

Through the minor leagues, Matthews has also been known for his elite control. Earlier this season, the right-hander tossed 32 2/3 innings to the tune of a 1.93 ERA with an impressive 38:9 K:BB.

Given his improvement and promising outing on Saturday, he should be added in all standard formats.
