NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 3/9/24

The 2023-2024 season is now in the final stretch as teams battle for home-ice heading into the Stanley Cup playoffs!!! With multiple big trades this season and teams going all-in, the race for Lord Stanley is on!

Tonight we have an eight slate and two teams playing on a back-to-back: Detroit and Winnipeg. The currently live top-three highest implied team totals are: Toronto with 3.9, Ottawa with 3.9 and Vegas with 3.8. I will do my best to guide you through this eight-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

DISCLOSURE: Make sure to monitor the NHL news feeds for the latest player status and injury news.

DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks

Jake Oettinger - DK $7.6K || FD $7.8K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

The goalie position is up in the air tonight with a vast realm of possibilities. Therefore, Oettinger, who is expected to have the best floor on the slate is the featured goalie. Over his last five starts, he has a 4-1 record with a 2.94 Goals Against Average and a 0.872 Save Percentage. He is not one of the best goalies in Goals Saved Above Expected Per 60 in the last ten games, however, he is also not one of the worst goalies either. The Kings remain one of the top value teams in Shots Per Goal Per 60, setting up Oettinger for a big night.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • Demko (DK $7.9K || FD $8.1K)
  • Hellebuyck (DK $7.5K || FD $7.9K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks

Connor McMichael - DK $3.6K || FD $4.5K

Opponent - Chicago Blackhawks

After being demoted back down to the third line, Connor McMichael now finds himself centering the second line once more. Throughout his last five appearances, he has two assists, eight shots and five blocked shots. In Per 60 stats, over the last ten games, excluding splits, the Chicago Blackhawks are the fifth-worst in Shots Against, the fourth-worst in Scoring Chances Against and the second-worst in Goals Against. Lastly, Chicago in their last ten away games are being outscored three to 26. McMichael and company are expected to have a big performance tonight.

Max Domi - DK $3.3K || FD $4K

Opponent - Montreal Canadiens

Everybody wrote off the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday because of Montreal’s positive regression, however, their goaltending as expected failed them and the Rotoballer team made big profits off of it. Tonight we have another Montreal matchup, however, Jake Allen is no longer with the organization after being traded to New Jersey during the Trade Deadline yesterday. Despite Allen no longer being there, Max Domi and the Maple Leafs will still have a good matchup. In Domi’s last five games, he has two assists, eight shots and two blocked shots.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Eichel (DK $7.9K || FD $9K)
  • Stuetzle (DK $5.2K || FD $7K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Wings - NHL DFS Picks

Alex Ovechkin - DK $6.7K || FD $7.6K

Opponent - Chicago Blackhawks

Ovechkin is ramping up form again with two goals, three assists, 16 shots and four blocked shots through his most recent five outings. He couldn’t be reaching form at any better of a time. As mentioned above, the Blackhawks remain one of the worst teams in the league and whether Petr Mrazek starts or Arvid Soderblom starts, the Capitals are projected to score a minimum of four goals tonight. With Ovechkin seeing a share of the top line and pairing and the third line and pairing, he is cleared for at least two points and three shots tonight.

Drake Batherson - DK $4.7K || FD $6.3K

Opponent - San Jose Sharks

Batherson is the next man up with the departure of ex-winger, Vladimir Tarasenko. Batherson now slots in on the top line with Brady Tkachuk and Shane Pinto and he will also see power-play time on the second unit as well. In the winger’s last five appearances, he has three goals, one assist, 16 shots and three blocked shots. At the other end of the ice is the San Jose Sharks, who just downgraded at the Trade Deadline as expected. This sets up Drake Batherson and the Ottawa Senators for a big game, projecting to score at a minimum three goals. Can they make a big splash or will Mackenzie Blackwood shut them down?

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Roslovic (DK $3.7K || FD $4.8K)
  • Mantha (DK $3.4K || FD $5.3K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks

Jakob Chychrun - DK $5K || FD $5.6K

Opponent - San Jose Sharks

Staying in San Jose, we have Jakob Chychrun, who is expected to take over for teammate Thomas Chabot, if he is to not play tonight. The Senators have been rotating Jake Sanderson, Thomas Chabot and Jakob Chychrun throughout their defense all season and more specifically, Chychrun and Chabot have shared duties on the second power-play unit. If Chabot is out tonight, Chychrun will take over the power-play quarterbacking duties by himself, providing a boost in value. Over his last five games, he has one assist, 16 shots and 13 blocked shots. As mentioned, San Jose is a bottom-two team in the league and with Ottawa projected three goals or more tonight, Chychrun will have ample opportunity to break his point rut.

Noah Hanifin - DK $4.3K || FD $5.8K

Opponent - Detroit Red Wings

Hanifin is expected to make his Vegas debut tonight, barring any last-minute setbacks. He is projected to play on the top pairing with Alex Pietrangelo and share ice time with fellow Boston U alumn, Jack Eichel. In Hanifin’s last five games as a Calgary Flame, he had two goals, three assists, 16 shots ands nine blocked shots. Playing a similar role with a more offensive-powered team sets up Hanifin for a big opportunity heading into the final stretch of the season. Addiontinally, Detroit is a bottom ten team and Dylan Larkin remains out, setting up Hanifin for a big Golden Knights debut.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Carlson (DK $6.7K || FD $6.1K)
  • Miller (DK $3.5K || FD $4.5K)
