New York Jets Biggest Offseason Needs - 2024 NFL Outlook

What should the New York Jets do in the offseason? What are the team's biggest needs for 2024 free agency? Who could they target in the NFL Draft?

The 2023 NFL season is over and the 2024 offseason is here. Teams have free agency and the draft ahead of them to reshape their rosters for the 2024 NFL season.

One team that finds itself in an interesting place this offseason is the New York Jets. The Jets were expected to compete in 2023, but an injury to quarterback Aaron Rodgers derailed their season. They finished 2023 with a 7-10 record.

What Are The New York Jets Biggest Offseason Needs?

Health at Quarterback

This is simple. The biggest thing that the Jets need in 2024 is for quarterback Aaron Rodgers to be back healthy. This team managed to win seven games with Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian, and Tim Boyle all starting games under center thanks to the strength of the defense. If Aaron Rodgers comes back and is even 80% of his old self, the Jets should be firmly in the playoff race.

Offensive Line Help

The Jets need help at tackle, especially considering how important it will be to keep Rodgers upright. Ideally, this team needs to grab two players between free agency and the draft who can start on the offensive line. Names like Tyron Smith from the Cowboys and Jonah Williams from the Bengals should be high on their list of players to target.

Wide Receivers

Garrett Wilson is a great No. 1 receiver, but the Jets simply can't go into 2024 with Allen Lazard as the WR2, right? They probably don't want to spend huge money at the position, but there are some names out there in free agency who can help this team out, plus there's a strong wide receiver rookie class.

Re-signing Jordan Whitehead

The defense was a clear strength for this Jets team in 2023. Keeping the key pieces of that unit around will be big for their 2024 hopes. Part of that is getting a deal done to keep safety Jordan Whitehead in New York. He picked off four passes in 2023. If Whitehead signs elsewhere, safety becomes a major need.

Who Should The Jets Target In The NFL Draft?

The New York Jets have the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This will be a good spot for them to grab a top player at a position of need.

The consensus among mock draft writers is that this is a spot to go with an offensive tackle. That could mean Alabama's J.C. Latham. It could mean Oregon's Taliese Fuaga. It could mean Penn State's Olu Fashanu.

New York may look for a pass-catching weapon for Rodgers here, but the smart move is to use this pick to shore up the holes on the offensive line.
