Will Denzel Mims Be Traded? Is He Worth Drafting for Fantasy If Traded

Denzel Mims - Fantasy Football Rankings, Wide Receivers, NFL News

Denzel Mims is ready to leave the New York Jets and have success elsewhere. Does Mims have fantasy value heading into the season? Should he be drafted?

Recently, New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims requested a trade. This shouldn't come as a shock considering Mims has been underutilized during his two seasons with the team. Still young, Mims is looking for a new start elsewhere, but are the Jets ready to let him go?

Coming into the preseason, Mims appeared to be locked in as the fourth-string receiver in New York. The 24-year-old is not satisfied with that and wants a change of scenery.

Now, the Jets must decide whether or not they want to move on from Mims. If so, will Mims have better fantasy value on another roster?

What Happened To Denzel Mims?

The Jets selected Mims in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He only played in nine games during his rookie season. Mims hauled in 23 receptions for 357 receiving yards, and zero touchdowns during the 2020 campaign. He followed that up with an even worse 2021 season.

Despite his struggles, Mims has only started in 11 NFL games. He hasn't exactly been given a great chance to succeed from the beginning of his career. Honestly, Mims has been lost in the shuffle as the Jets continue to upgrade at the position.

Will The Jets Trade Denzel Mims?

Despite the trade request, head coach Robert Saleh does not seem interested in moving on from Mims.

It does appear that the Jets organization does want Mims to stay with the team. Although, they've barely used him through his first two seasons in the league.

That being said, no one should be shocked if Mims continues to stand firm on his trade request.  He doesn't want to be a backup anymore, so the Jets should consider honoring his request. The potential is there, so the Jets could get something out of Mims, who is clearly dissatisfied with the organization.

Is Denzel Mims Worth Drafting?

To be honest, there is no good answer to this question. At the end of the day, it all depends on where Mims is located at the beginning of the regular season.

The Baylor product does have skill, so no one should be questioning his ability on the field.

Let's be honest, the Jets aren't exactly known for getting the best out of their players. Mims could very well go on to have a successful career elsewhere.

Right now, Mims isn't worth drafting in re-draft fantasy formats. The only place where Mims could have value right now is in dynasty leagues. The potential and upside is there for Mims as a player.

However, the Jets clearly don't know how to utilize Mims in their offensive scheme. Possibly, another organization could find a way to get the most out of Mims. Although he'd have to learn a whole new system, so he's a dynasty hold right now.
