Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 5:
Dallas Goedert, TE, Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) was not on the Friday injury report and seems ready to play on Sunday. Goedert has three scores over his last two games since returning from injury, hauling in two in the first half last week against the Buccaneers.
Goedert has been one of the most consistent and reliable players at his position so far this season and is the only player on Philly's roster with multiple receiving touchdowns. He matches up against one of the league's best defenses in Week 5 as the Broncos visit Philly.
Denver allows the sixth-least amount of fantasy points to TEs through four games this year, but Goedert has proven himself as one of Jalen Hurts' favorite targets. He's a solid TE1 this week.
Taysom Hill, TE, Saints
New Orleans Saints tight ends Taysom Hill (knee) and Foster Moreau (knee) have been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list ahead of Sunday's Week 5 contest against the New York Giants. Hill and Moreau are listed as questionable after logging limited practices, but they're both on track to play this weekend.
Their activations could be coming at the perfect time, as New Orleans tight end Juwan Johnson (ankle) is dealing with an injury of his own and is questionable to play against the Giants. Hill offers more of a gadget threat on the ground, while Moreau is a blocker and a capable receiver.
Managers shouldn't rush to add either player, but Hill is worth monitoring in case he carves out a significant rushing role alongside Alvin Kamara and Kendre Miller.
Darren Waller, TE, Dolphins
Miami Dolphins tight end Darren Waller made an immediate impact in Week 4 with three catches on four targets for 47 yards and two touchdowns. He'll look to continue his big contributions in Week 5 against the Panthers, who have been a favorable matchup for tight ends this season.
Waller only played 16 snaps (28%) in his return from retirement, but he said he's ready for "a jump" in his snap count if that's what his coaches want. Without Tyreek Hill (knee), Waller could be the second option for Tua Tagovailoa behind top receiver Jaylen Waddle.
He should find space to work against the Panthers, who have allowed the second-most yards per game to the position in the NFL. Waller is still volatile after just a one-week sample size, but he's a viable emergency option as RotoBaller's TE16 this week.
Sam LaPorta, TE, Lions
Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta has had an underwhelming season so far in terms of fantasy production, recording 16 catches for 177 yards without finding the end zone through his first four games.
After earning nine targets in Week 1, LaPorta has been targeted exactly four times by Lions quarterback Jared Goff in each of the last three weeks. LaPorta has a favorable matchup on paper in Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Cincinnati has allowed the third-most passing yards (1,089) and fifth-most passing touchdowns (eight) in the league through four games.
The Bengals are also allowing an average of 10 targets per game to tight ends, which is the highest mark in the league. Despite the frustrating production he has provided to this point, LaPorta remains a must-start fantasy tight end in Week 5.
David Njoku, TE, Browns
Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku (knee) will take on the Minnesota Vikings in London in Week 5. Njoku practiced fully on Thursday and Friday after being limited on Wednesday and is listed without an injury designation heading into Sunday's contest.
That being said, Njoku sets up as a low-end TE2 in Week 5. He continues to split tight-end looks with Harold Fannin Jr., which has cut into his fantasy value.
The Browns will also trot out rookie Dillon Gabriel to make his NFL debut against Minnesota's exceptional pass defense, so expect the offense to skew run-heavy. Njoku is fine to utilize in fantasy, but he's not a must-start this weekend.
