Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 6:
Jameson Williams, WR, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has struggled to maintain a consistent role in his team's offense so far this season. Through five games, the 24-year-old has recorded just 11 catches for 223 yards and one touchdown on 21 targets. Williams is averaging over 20 yards per reception and remains an explosive downfield threat, but his middling target volume makes him very difficult for fantasy managers to trust.
Williams' Week 6 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs does not appear to be a great spot for him to break out.
The Chiefs have allowed the ninth-fewest passing yards (999) and the fourth-fewest number of passing touchdowns (five) in the NFL so far this season. Additionally, the Lions could be without starting left tackle Taylor Decker (shoulder), which may make it difficult for quarterback Jared Goff to have the time to hit Williams for a big play down the field. Williams profiles as a low-end, boom/bust WR3/flex option in Week 6 against Kansas City.
Hollywood Brown, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown will take on the Detroit Lions in Week 6. Brown was on the injury report with an ankle injury, but practiced fully all week and does not have an injury designation heading into the weekend. Brown has been a serviceable fantasy receiver this season, catching at least four passes or a touchdown in every game. In Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Brown caught four of his eight targets for 48 yards.
The 28-year-old has been a consistent possession receiver for Kansas City, but has lacked the explosive gains that the Chiefs turn to Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton for. Despite not having any blowup games since Week 1, Brown could see a bump in production on Sunday night against Detroit. The Lions are the highest-scoring team in the league, and Kansas City will likely have to pass early and often to stay competitive.
Worthy will be the focal point of the offense, but Brown could be a useful chain-mover in Week 6. Brown is ranked WR48 in our RotoBaller Half-PPR rankings, making him a deeper league flex option this week.
Isiah Pacheco, RB, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco will face off against the Detroit Lions in Week 6. Pacheco handled seven carries for 36 yards and caught three passes for 20 yards in their Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pacheco once again split carries with Kareem Hunt, and the latter found the endzone twice last week.
Rostering Pacheco has been a frustrating task for fantasy managers, even though he's averaged at least 5.0 yards per carry in three games this season. Despite his efficiency, Kansas City has still preferred Hunt in goal-line situations. It won't be easy to trust Pacheco again this week against the Lions, who are the highest-scoring team in the league.
The Chiefs have the highest neutral pass rate in the league, and that trend should continue, given their game has a 52.5 O/U, the highest of the week. Pacheco is ranked RB41 in our RotoBaller Half-PPR rankings, making him a desperation flex option despite his efficiency on limited touches.
Kareem Hunt, RB, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt will face the Detroit Lions in Week 6. Hunt was on the injury report with a calf injury, but practiced fully all week and was removed from the report ahead of this week's matchup. Hunt handled seven carries for 49 yards and two touchdowns in their Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The veteran running back also caught one pass for eight yards last week. Hunt averaged 7.0 yards per carry against the Jaguars, but a 33-yard run boosted his average. Hunt managed just 16 yards on his other six carries in the contest for a 2.7 yards per carry average. The 30-year-old has failed to average at 4.0 yards per carry in four of five games this season, but Kansas City has still given him the most valuable touches out of the backfield.
Hunt is the primary goal-line and passing downs back for the Chiefs despite his inefficiency, and that trend should continue this week.
Kansas City will take on the Lions in a game where the O/U is 52.5 and the Chiefs are favored by 2.5 points. There should be plenty of scoring in this week's contest, and Hunt could be the one scoring touchdowns in this Chiefs backfield. Hunt is ranked RB35 in our RotoBaller Half-PPR rankings, putting him in the RB3 conversation this week.
Tyquan Thornton, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton is coming off his highest yardage total of the season in Week 5 against Jacksonville, catching three of five targets for 90 yards. But Thornton's route participation has declined over the past couple of weeks. After being north of 70% the first three weeks, he slid down to 35% in Week 4 and 43.5% in Week 5.
That number will likely only decrease in future weeks, with star wide receiver Rashee Rice set to return from suspension in Week 7. Thornton could take advantage of a positive matchup on Sunday night as the Lions have allowed the third most PPR points per game to wide receivers this season.
