Should I drop Hassan Haskins for fantasy football Week 7? Is Hassan Haskins a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.
It seems the Los Angeles Chargers have found their new top tailback.
The Chargers backfield was in a serious state of flux heading into their Week 6 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Down their top two tailbacks (Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris), late-round rookie Hassan Haskins and former 6th-round pick Kimani Vidal were set to battle it out for the top-tailback spot.

The battle ended up being as lopsided as the Battle of Marathon. Vidal galloped for 124 yards on 18 carries and played the majority of the game, while Haskins settled for a measly 14 yards on six carries. So, should fantasy football managers drop Haskins? Here is my take:
Should I Drop Hassan Haskins in Fantasy Football?
No, you should hold onto Haskins, especially in standard leagues, because one great game does not make Vidal the next LaDainian Tomlinson. Sure, Vidal firmly established himself as the main man at the moment in the Chargers rushing attack. But Vidal is more of a short, shifty runner with some burst, where as Haskins is a bull rusher who can batter defenses between the tackles.
Harris will miss the remainder of the season, Hampton is on the short-term injured reserve, but there is no guarantee that he will return after missing just four games. He could miss another four for all we know. That means even if Vidal is the No. 1 guy, Haskins is going to get his time and touches. Vidal is no sure thing to hold onto the starting spot until Hampton returns. If Vidal falters, now Haskins becomes the top tailback.
Running backs are hard to find in fantasy football, especially as the season goes on. RB2s should only be dropped if you know they have no chance of becoming their teams’ RB1. That is not the case with Haskins. Keep him rostered for another week or two and see how things shake out with the Chargers running back rotation before you give him his walking papers.
Just know that Haskins is a short-term fantasy play. Whenever Hampton gets healthy and back on the field, he will be Jim Harbaugh’s leader of the rushing attack once again. If you are still thinking of dropping Haskins and want a different option, check out these runners below!
Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?
Zonovan Knight, Arizona Cardinals
Unheralded Zonovan Knight overtook veteran journeyman Michael Carter as Arizona’s top tailback in Week 6. Knight rushed 11 times for 34 yards and a touchdown and added a 20-yard reception against the Indianapolis Colts. Until Trey Benson is eligible to return from the injured reserve in Week 10, Knight should at worst be part of a running-back-by-committee situation for the Cardinals, and maybe he emerges as the RB1 if he keeps getting more snaps.
Tyjae Spears, Tennessee Titans
Tyjae Spears has now been back on the field for two games after missing the first month-plus due to injury. Spears actually was on the field for more snaps than workhorse Tony Pollard in Tennessee’s Week 6 loss. Was that due to the game script since the Titans were trailing most of the game, or is Spears going to challenge Pollard for the starting spot? It will be interesting to see how things shake out now that Mike McCoy has taken over as the interim head coach.
Jaydon Blue, Dallas Cowboys
Normally a third-string running back who has seven yards on seven carries would get as much interest on the fantasy waiver wire as a punter would. But now that Dallas’ RB2 Miles Sanders suffered a season-ending knee injury, Blue moves up the depth chart and his fantasy value gets a boost. If RB1 Javonte Williams wears down or gets injured, Blue’s touch total and fantasy worth will go through the roof.
