In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Man...what have I gotta do to gain ground on Spencer this year? My #HeartPlay at Pebble Beach, Jordan Spieth, came through with a huge T3, only for Spencer's choice, Daniel Berger, to win the dang tournament. I keep waiting on a misstep from my colleague, but he's played things beautifully to this point and sits at just over $3 million in earnings already. With Spencer's choices out of my control, I can only focus on my selections in this contest and feel like I have a nice one lined up for this week's Genesis.
Patrick Cantlay is perhaps my favorite play on this week's slate. I love the recent form - runner-up finishes in each of his last two starts - and great course fit at Riviera. The UCLA alum has been on a tear, gaining 8.5 and 9.7 strokes T2G over his last two starts and won’t be kept out of the winner’s circle for very long if he continues playing at this level. His Swiss-Army-knife style is tailor-made for the course - he grades out second in this field in SG: Total over the last 12 rounds - and that’s reflected in his Genesis results which includes a top-five outing in 2018 and three-straight finishes inside the top-17.

Spencer Aguiar - Bryson DeChambeau

A small break here or there is what typically decides these contests, and we caught a lucky Sunday finish with Daniel Berger at Pebble Beach to hold off the mad dash efforts from Joe and Andrew with Jordan Spieth. The victory gives me a little more wiggle room than I had a week ago, but this is still anyone's game with all the biggest tournaments of the year left on the table.
For the first time this season, I don't have a natural pick that I am jumping for joy to make. Maybe that signifies playing things more conservatively with someone that won't come back to bite me down the road, but aggression is the name of the game for me here in 2021. Bryson DeChambeau has a few natural spots to target, most notably all majors that aren't the Open Championship, but I am willing to take my chances with him on a venue that possesses a lot of the similarities that Augusta does, just without the amplified pressure.
DeChambeau has done his best work in his career on fast Poa greens, and his back-to-back top-15 finishes in this event should signify that he likes the layout of Riviera Country Club. You will see many people tout DeChambeau to win this tournament, but gamers will get a chance to be contrarian since most won't want to use their prized commodity this early in the year. Just know that if you are playing against me in my OAD contest sponsored by TheSBFFC, you aren't going to get a free shot at the 10th-ranked player in the world since I am taking him there also! Is that bit of information enough to dissuade you? I hope so!

Josh Bennett - Rory McIlroy

Nowhere to go but up from here in this contest. Five picks in and I’m not sure I’ve returned a dollar amount higher than 50k. That all changes this week though! I am coming with some heat with my pick this time around. It is time for Rory to step back into the winner’s circle. He’s been playing really solid golf for three out of four days for a long time now, it’s just a matter of time before he will close one of these out. He hasn’t finished worse than fifth-place in this event the last two years and has two top-20 finishes the two times prior to that. He’s been insane off-the-tee so far this year, and he is going to score on the par-5’s which is important on a hard course like this one. His issues with irons should be a little mitigated here with the overall difficulty of most of the holes, and he’ll also have an advantage there with shorter approaches than most everyone else because of his length. Rory is due, it’s time (or at least get me $100k, please?).

Andrew Putters - Patrick Cantlay
Alternate - Kevin Streelman
Patrick has posted great finishes in back-to-back tournaments, so he checks all the boxes on recent form. He is top-20 in every SG category across the board. He is a dominant ball striker, which is a requirement at Riviera. In my opinion, the only player standing in his way will be Dustin Johnson, who is also playing great, but made the daunting trip to the Saudi International a couple of weeks ago. They are really 1A and 1B on this track. Patrick is first in SG: Total in recent form and after top-three finishes in each of his last two starts, he’s my man this week. Let’s keep it going Cantlay.
