Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin (undisclosed) will be available for Thursday's season opener against the New Jersey Devils, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Slavin didn't see any preseason action, but Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour suggested that it was mostly for precautionary reasons. Although Slavin is the leader of the Hurricanes' blue line, his fantasy production is usually modest. In 80 outings last season, Slavin recorded 27 points (six goals, 21 assists), 110 shots, and 136 blocks in 80 contests.--Taavi Pailk
