Xavier Edwards Scratched With Back Tightness
Xavier Edwards (back) was scratched from Friday's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays due to back tightness. With Edwards sitting out, Javier Sanoja will play shortstop and will hit ninth against Rays right-hander Taj Bradley, with outfielder Jesus Sanchez moving up to the leadoff spot. Believe it or not, this will be Edwards' first game off of the 2025 season. It's unclear if the injury will keep the speedy 25-year-old shortstop out beyond Friday's contest, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day until we know more. The former first-rounder by the San Diego Padres in 2018 hits from both sides of the plate and is primarily useful in deeper fantasy formats for his speed. He has yet to go deep in 2025 and is batting .263 (45-for-171) with 11 RBI, 18 runs and 11 steals. Sanoja is a low-upside DFS sleeper in the nine-hole with a homer, nine RBI and 10 runs in 87 at-bats this year.
