Willie Calhoun Signs With Yankees
2 years agoThe New York Yankees agreed to a non-roster minor-league deal with free-agent outfielder Willie Calhoun on Saturday, according to a source. Calhoun will receive an invitation to major-league spring training. The 28-year-old was one of the Texas Rangers' top prospects, but he never ended up panning out over six seasons. He joined the San Francisco Giants for four games in 2022 but ended up playing in only 22 total contests. In his six big-league seasons, Calhoun has a .240/.299/.404 slash line with a .703 OPS, 32 home runs, 104 RBI and 98 runs scored in 936 plate appearances. He managed to hit a career-high 21 home runs in 2019 with Texas, but Calhoun just hasn't been able to get over the hump in the big leagues. The Yankees will hope to get something out of him, if nothing more than outfield depth.
