Sonny Gray Feeling Normal This Spring
5 years agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sonny Gray (elbow), who had right elbow surgery to remove bone chips in September, is feeling normal in spring training. Gray said he threw more than usual this offseason and feels great. The right-hander said he pitched with elbow stiffness for "multiple years," but he didn't miss a single start in 2019. He went 11-8 with a 2.87 ERA, 205 strikeouts and a 1.08 WHIP over 175 1/3 innings (31 starts) in his first season with the Reds. Gray was 8-3 with a tidy 1.99 EA in his final 16 starts and made the All-Star team while finishing seventh in the National League Cy Young voting. His curveball became more effective in 2019 and his strikeout percentage rose from 21.1 percent in 2018 to 29 percent last year. Gray's value is on the rise, and he'll be a great target as a No. 3 fantasy starter despite pitching in a hitter-friendly home environment.
