Cleveland Browns linebacker Jordan Hicks has announced his retirement from football on Friday. This is tough news for the Browns who are now without their top two linebackers with Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (neck) currently sidelined and Hicks hanging up his cleats. Hicks played 10 years in the league with four different organizations. He recorded 952 tackles, 16.5 sacks, and 13 interceptions in 134 games in the league. Hicks spent his final season in the league with the Browns. He registered 78 tackles, two sacks, and four passes defended in 12 games with Cleveland last season. Best of luck to Hicks on his life after football. The expectation is the Browns will now use a combination of Jerome Baker, Devin Bush, and Carson Schwesinger at linebacker.--Andy WebbSource: Ian Rapoport

New York Yankees outfield prospect Spencer Jones (back) is not in Friday's starting lineup as he is dealing with back spasms. However, Jack Curry of the YES Network noted that his absence is not related to a potential trade. Jones has been one of the most productive power hitters in the minors this season and is knocking on the MLB door. Jones opened the season with Double-A but needed just 49 games to prove he was ready to move up to the top level as he launched 16 long balls with a .983 OPS. Through his first 19 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Jones has hit an incredible 13 home runs and swiped six bags. Even though the Yankee outfield is quite crowded, Jones' elite power upside could still warrant a promotion. For now, he is worth stashing in all 12+ team five-outfielder leagues.--Andy SmithSource: Jack Curry

Cleveland Browns quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett have been splitting up the first-team reps early in training camp. Pickett got the first chance as the starter on Wednesday and then Flacco took over on Thursday. It's worth noting that Flacco got the first reps for 11-on-11 drills on Friday. It appears that the starting job for Week 1 is between these two right now. Dillon Gabriel also got a few first team reps, but seems like a long shot for the starting role. The Browns have said they plan to give all four of their quarterbacks starting reps throughout the summer. This is going to be a situation to monitor throughout training camp. Whoever wins the starting gig could have low-end streaming appeal, but probably won't be a great option given the lack of talent in Cleveland.--Andy WebbSource: New York Times

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Ha-Seong Kim (back) remains out of action for Friday's series opener against the hosting Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, per Ryan Bass of Bally Sports. Taylor Walls is starting at shortstop and will hit eighth against Reds right-hander Nick Martinez. Kim injured his back on Monday and will miss his third straight game. The 29-year-old South Korean native didn't make his Rays debut until July 4 after having offseason surgery, and he's been in and out of the lineup with nagging injuries pretty much ever since. The 29-year-old's aggressive playing style doesn't help matters, especially on the basepaths. He offers some modest stolen base appeal when healthy and has gone 7-for-31 (.226) with a homer, three RBI and four steals in his 10 games. Walls has never faced Martinez in his career and will be a low-upside DFS sleeper.--Keith HernandezSource: Bally Sports Florida - Ryan Bass

Brooke Pryor of ESPN reports that Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith (undisclosed) was working in individual periods at training camp on Friday but did not work with the position group for the second wave of individual periods, which is basically the same participation level that he had on Thursday. Head coach Mike Tomlin said that Smith is day-to-day with an unspecified injury that doesn't sound very serious. The 29-year-old had a career year in 2024 with the Miami Dolphins, catching 88 passes on 111 targets for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games (six starts), and now he'll reunite with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who he's played for in Tennessee and Atlanta. Fantasy managers are going to need to downgrade Jonnu in fantasy this year, though, as he will probably struggle to find weekly value while sharing targets with Pat Freiermuth.--Keith HernandezSource: ESPN.com - Brooke Pryor

The Los Angeles Rams will hold their first padded training camp practice on Monday, ESPN's Sarah Barshop reports, and quarterback Matthew Stafford (back) is expected to participate. Stafford has been dealing with a sore back early in camp and has been working off to the side with trainers so far. While this certainly bears watching for the 37-year-old veteran as we get closer to the regular season, it doesn't quite sound like anything too serious just yet. The Rams are most likely taking extra precaution with the star QB early in camp after signing him to a two-year, $80 million contract extension in the offseason. Stafford lost receiver Cooper Kupp this offseason but gained Davante Adams, and he of course still has young stud Puca Nacua. Injuries and a lack of rushing ability give Stafford little room for error in the fantasy realm, though, making him a low-end QB2.--Keith HernandezSource: ESPN.com - Sarah Barshop

Free-agent wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith took a visit with the Tennessee Titans on Friday, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Smith is looking to latch on with a new team after he was placed on Injured Reserve last year with an undisclosed injury before being released in August by the Detroit Lions. The 29-year-old was active for just one game back in 2023 with the Denver Broncos, too. In 2022 in his last year with the New Orleans Saints, Smith had 19 receptions on 27 targets for 278 yards and one touchdown in 15 games (six starts). The former third-rounder (91st overall) in 2018 by the Saints out of Central Florida has never had more than 34 receptions or 448 receiving yards in a single season since debuting in 2018 in the Big Easy. He will merely be competing for a roster spot in training camp this summer if he signs with an organization.--Keith HernandezSource: NFL Network - Mike Garofolo

Veteran free-agent wide receiver DJ Chark, who spent the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Chargers, is signing an undisclosed one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons on Friday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Chark, who has also played with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers, will now head to the NFC South after going on several visits. The 28-year-old former second-rounder (61st overall) by the Jags in 2018 out of LSU spent most of last year with the Bolts injured and only managed to catch four of 10 targets for 31 yards and a touchdown in seven games (no starts). Chark's only 1,000-yard season in his seven years in the NFL came back in 2019 with Jacksonville in his second year in the league. He will give the Falcons receiver depth but will be fighting for a 53-man roster spot, so he can remain off the fantasy radar mostly everywhere for now.--Keith HernandezSource: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The Colorado Rockies reinstated infielder Thairo Estrada (thumb) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and optioned infielder Adael Amador to Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Estrada will immediately start at second base for Friday's series opener against the hosting Baltimore Orioles while hitting sixth versus right-hander Dean Kremer at Camden Yards. The 29-year-old second baseman will return to action for the first time since spraining his thumb on July 7. He will return to starting duties at the keystone in Colorado, but although Estrada has hit .284 (33-for-116) on the year, he has limited fantasy upside as a light-hitting infielder on the worst team in baseball. The Venezuelan has added only two home runs, 18 RBI, 11 runs and one stolen base in 2025 after getting a late start to the year due to injury.--Keith HernandezSource: Rockies Club Information

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick (hamstring) did not return from the injured list on Friday for the series opener against the visiting Miami Marlins, according to Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports. Frelick will go through a full pre-game workout as a final step, so it sounds like he could be back on Saturday for Game 2 of the series. The 25-year-old has been out recently with a left-hamstring strain. When Frelick returns, he'll be coming back to a strong .294/.354/.404 slash line with a .758 OPS, seven home runs, 39 RBI, 46 runs scored and 17 stolen bases in 344 at-bats this year. When he's ready to return, Frelick figures to see most of the playing time in right field for the Brew Crew, which could push Blake Perkins back to more of a bench role. Outside of his speed, Frelick doesn't offer a whole lot for fantasy managers.--Keith HernandezSource: Bally Sports Wisconsin - Sophia Minnaert

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht told The Athletic that he is eyeing an extension "when the time is right" for quarterback Baker Mayfield, and hopes that Mayfield "continues to be our quarterback for a long time." The 30-year-old Mayfield still has two years remaining on his current contract, but he's coming off the best season of his career in 2024. In 17 games, he threw for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns, chipping in 378 yards and three touchdowns as a rusher for good measure. Mayfield has an excellent supporting cast of receivers to work with in Tampa Bay between Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka, and Jalen McMillan. While he may see some touchdown regression in 2025, Mayfield is a good bet to rack up passing yards and provide solid back-end QB1 play in fantasy.--Will BradySource: The Athletic - Jeff Howe

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said that running back Jerome Ford (undisclosed) missed another training camp practice on Friday, but he's getting closer to returning to the field. Ford was able to work out earlier on the field with the athletic training staff, per Scott Petrak of The Elyria Chronicle Telegram. This is a situation of more urgency because of the fact that rookie second-rounder Quinshon Judkins remains unsigned while dealing with charges of domestic violence. The good news, though, is that the 25-year-old Ford's undisclosed injury is minor, and he should rejoin his teammates at practice soon. The former fifth-rounder had 813 rushing yards and four touchdowns in 2023, but he took a step back last year with 104 carries for 565 yards and three TDs in 14 games. Ford is currently RotoBaller's RB53, but he could rise up draft boards if Judkins is handed down a suspension.--Keith HernandezSource: The Chronicle Telegram - Scott Petrak

New York Rangers winger Brett Berard revealed that he played most of last season with a shoulder injury. The 22-year-old tore his labrum in November during his fourth career game. Berard finished the season with 10 points (six goals, four assists) in 35 games. Additionally, he scored 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) in 30 AHL contests. However, due to the injury, Berard was unable to represent Team USA at the World Championship. Next season, the Rangers might give Berard a more prominent role, and he expects to be at 100 percent when training camp starts.--Taavi PailkSource: Mollie Walker

New York Islanders left wing Maxim Tsyplakov has avoided salary arbitration by signing a new two-year deal worth $4.5 million. The Islanders picked up Tsyplakov last offseason as a free agent on a one-year, entry-level contract worth $950,000. Tsyplakov adapted well to his new environment, scoring 35 points (10 goals, 25 assists) in 77 games, which ranked ninth among first-year players. The 26-year-old Russian also brought physicality to the Islanders' lineup, finishing the campaign with 140 hits. Fantasy managers can expect similar production from Tsyplakov next season, as he's no longer a very young player and probably doesn't have much upside left.--Taavi PailkSource: Sportsnet

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson (hamstring) has suffered a mild left-hamstring strain, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic. Lewis reports that the team plans to be "really cautious" with its star receiver, but does not relay any sort of timeline for his return to practice. Jefferson missed seven games with an injury to his right hamstring back in 2023, so there's a history of soft-tissue injuries in his lower body. The 26-year-old is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, coming off a season in which he recorded 103 catches for 1,533 yards and 10 touchdowns. His presence on the field is critical to the success of Minnesota's offense and first-year starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy. It's too early to say that Jefferson is at risk of missing any significant time, but the Vikings are already likely facing an early-season suspension for their WR2, Jordan Addison.--Will BradySource: The Athletic - Alec Lewis

Carolina Hurricanes right wing Jackson Blake has signed an eight-year, $45 million contract extension. The deal will come into effect in 2026-27. Blake, a former fourth-round draft pick, broke into the NHL during the 2024-25 campaign, ranking 10th among first-year players with 34 points (17 goals, 17 assists) in 80 contests. The team expects a lot more from him going forward. "Jackson had an outstanding rookie season, and we think he is just scratching the surface of the player he can be," Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky said in a statement. "His tenaciousness on the puck and competitiveness match our team's culture, and we're excited about his future with our club." Next season, Blake should continue to see regular top-six minutes and power-play time.--Taavi PailkSource: ESPN

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby has the team's "coaching staff frequently singing his praises" for his work early in training camp, according to John Shipley of Sports Illustrated. Shipley notes that Bigsby "got the bulk of the key reps" and "stood out quite a bit more" than Jaguars running back Travis Etienne. The 23-year-old Bigsby is entering his third year in Jacksonville and could be poised to take over a lead role in the team's backfield. He played in 16 games in 2024, recording 168 carries for 766 yards and seven touchdowns. Bigsby struggles as a receiver, but he's an efficient rusher who excels around the goal line. With head coach Liam Coen leading a new staff in Jacksonville, Bigsby could emerge as the clear RB1 for the Jaguars with a strong preseason.--Will BradySource: Sports Illustrated - John Shipley

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed said he put on weight in the offseason in order to hold up better against contact, but ESPN's Erin Summers said he also made sure that he didn't lose any of his signature speed. Shaheed is now up to 190 pounds as he enters the 2025 season. The 26-year-old will play at 10 pounds heavier, although he could lose a lot of that weight as the season progresses. Shaheed should be fairly safe as the WR2 in the Saints offense behind Chris Olave after catching 46 passes for 719 yards and five touchdowns in 2023 as a first-time Pro Bowler. He played in just six games last year due to a knee injury, though, and whether he'll have the same breakaway speed will certainly be a question. Another big question mark will be the Saints' QB situation. RotoBaller has Shaheed ranked at No. 51 among wideouts.--Keith HernandezSource: ESPN.com - Erin Summers

Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden was being used in multiple different fashions during the team's training camp practice on Friday, according to Ryan Wood of USA Today. Wood notes that Golden was "doing a lot of pre-snap motions" and broke a jet sweep for a gain of 20-plus yards along the left sideline. A first-round draft pick out of Texas, Golden was utilized exclusively as a receiver in college. However, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has shown a willingness to get the ball in the hands of wideouts like Jayden Reed and Christian Watson in unconventional manners in the past. It's a good sign for Golden that he appears to be a focus of the offense this early in camp. Green Bay has a deep receiver room, but there's opportunity for the rookie to emerge as the true go-to target for quarterback Jordan Love.--Will BradySource: USA Today - Ryan Wood

Carolina Panthers rookie first-round wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan (leg) has been taking part in team drills during minicamp this week, per Joe Person of The Athletic. There's nothing to worry about with McMillan physically after he missed some time in minicamp with a leg injury. The Panthers drafted McMillan with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, so the 22-year-old from Arizona figures to have a pretty big role right away in his rookie campaign. Not many people expect a ton from the Panthers offense, but if quarterback Bryce Young builds on the end of his second year in the NFL, McMillan could be a nice little value pick as a WR3/flex in fantasy. There have been rumors of potential laziness from McMillan from his days in college, but he was extremely productive in college and has ideal size (6-foot-4, 219 pounds).--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Joe Person
