John Means Throws Bullpen Session
John Means (elbow) was able to use his full repertoire during an 18-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday, according to the team. Means is slowly building back up as he rehabs from the elbow surgery he underwent in June 2024 as a member of the Baltimore Orioles. The owner of a lifetime 3.68 ERA over 401 innings and 78 appearances (73 starts), Means hit free agency last winter and joined the Guardians on a one-year, $1 million guarantee. The deal also includes a $6 million club option for 2026, so the Guardians will want to see Means in game action before deciding whether to pick it up. The Guardians expect the 32-year-old to debut in September if he avoids setbacks.Source: MLB.com
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Lane Thomas "Progressing Really Well"
Lane Thomas (foot) is "feeling a lot better" and "progressing really well" as he works back from plantar fasciitis in his right foot, manager Stephen Vogt said. Thomas has been running and participating in some baseball activities as he moves toward a potential September return. The 29-year-old has gone through a slow recovery process since he landed on the 10-day IL on July 5, continuing a frustrating season for him. Thomas has been on the IL three times (twice for foot issues, once for a wrist injury) and has seen his production crater when he has taken the field. After combining for a .250/.309/.428 line with 60 homers and 60 stolen bases from 2022-24, Thomas has hit a meek .160/.246/.272 line with four HRs, 11 RBI, 10 runs scored, and four steals across 142 plate appearances in 2025.Source: MLB.com
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Jameson Taillon Effective in Triple-A Rehab Start
Jameson Taillon (calf) was sharp in his third and final rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday. Taillon tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings of two-hit ball with four strikeouts and two walks on 84 pitches (51 strikes). Cubs manager Craig Counsell indicated beforehand that it would be the last start in the minors for Taillon, who has been on the 15-day injured list with a strained right calf since July 1. He'll slide back into the Cubs' rotation with a 4.44 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 74:20 K:BB over 95 1/3 innings. Taillon is expected to start during the Cubs' five-game series against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers next week.Source: MiLB.com
Chicago Cubs right-hander Hunter Greene Stellar in Return From Injury
Hunter Greene turned in an ace-like performance on Wednesday in an 8-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Making his return after missing two-plus months with a groin injury, Greene fired six shutout innings and allowed three hits with no walks and six strikeouts on 85 pitches (58 strikes). He generated 16 whiffs and gave up just one extra-base hit - a double to Kyle Schwarber. Greene has been on the IL twice this year with groin issues, but the 26-year-old has delivered elite results when healthy. Over 12 starts and 65 2/3 innings, Greene has gone 5-3 with a 2.47 ERA, a .93 WHIP, and 79 strikeouts against 14 walks. He's scheduled to make his next start against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday.Source: ESPN
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Miguel Amaya Carted Off Field on Wednesday
Miguel Amaya (leg) had to be carted off the field on Wednesday after suffering an apparent leg injury against the Toronto Blue Jays. Amaya went down with the injury when he stepped on first base awkwardly on an infield single in the top of the eighth inning. The Cubs replaced him with Reese McGuire. It's an awful development for Amaya, who came back from the injured list on Wednesday after missing around two and a half months with a strained left oblique. Amaya had been out since May 25 and looks likely to end up right back on the IL. The 26-year-old went 1-for-3 on Wednesday and has hit a solid .280/.314/.500 with four homers, 25 RBI, and 14 runs scored in 103 plate appearances this season.Source: Blake Murphy - Sportsnet
Chicago Cubs catcher Brock Stewart has No Structural Damage in Shoulder
Brock Stewart (shoulder) does not have any structural damage in his injured right shoulder, manager Dave Roberts told reporters. Rather, Stewart is dealing with "wear and tear," Roberts said. The Dodgers placed the 33-year-old on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with inflammation. Stewart has since received an injection and won't throw for at least a week. Los Angeles acquired Stewart from the Minnesota Twins at the July 31 trade deadline to help bolster its bullpen, but it hasn't worked out so far. Stewart has made four appearances since the trade and given up two earned runs on six hits with 3:2 K:BB in 3 2/3 innings. Overall, though, Stewart has pitched to a stingy 2.63 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP, 44:13 K:BB, and 16 holds across 37 2/3 frames.Source: Bill Plunkett - Orange County Register
Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Nick Kurtz Sitting on Wednesday
Nick Kurtz is getting the night off on Wednesday against Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen. Tyler Soderstrom will replace Kurtz at first base and bat cleanup, while Carlos Cortes will play left field and occupy the leadoff spot. Kurtz is off after starting 14 games in a row for the A's dating back to July 28. The AL Rookie of the Year favorite has gone 15 straight contests without a home run since his incredible six-hit, four-HR, eight-RBI outburst against the Houston Astros on July 25. While he's a modest 15-for-54 (.278) with three RBI, 11 runs scored, and 20:11 K:BB since then, this has undoubtedly been a spectacular first season for Kurtz. The 22-year-old has slashed .300/.381/.618 with 23 homers, 62 RBI, and 56 runs over 337 plate appearances.Source: MLB.com
Athletics first baseman Curtis Mead Expected to Play Regularly at Third Base
Miguel Vargas (oblique) returning from the 15-day injured list and playing first base on Tuesday, infielder Curtis Mead made the start at third base. The 24-year-old former top prospect was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays at the trade deadline at the end of July, and he finished Tuesday's game 2-for-5 with an RBI single and two runs scored. With the team in a rebuilding phase, Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times writes that the White Sox can afford to let Mead play through growing pains. The Aussie infielder entered play on Wednesday slashing .232/.321/.324 with three home runs, 13 RBI, 16 runs and five steals in 142 at-bats. In his first eight games for the Pale Hose, Mead has gone 7-for-27 with five RBI. The boost in playing time makes him rosterable as infield depth in AL-only leagues.Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Kyle Williams
With Chicago White Sox infielder Chris Sale Throws Two Innings in Rehab Start with Triple-A Gwinnett
Chris Sale (ribs) pitched two innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. He gave up three hits, one run, with a pair of strikeouts, getting up to 40 pitches. Sale averaged 93.9 mph with his fastball, which was down from his 95 mph season average. The southpaw is likely to make two more rehab starts before joining Atlanta's rotation. Sale was following up his monster 2025 season this year until he went down with a fractured left rib in June. He was (5-4) with a K/9 of 11.49, which was his highest since 2019. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Sale as he's expected to be reinstated from the IL soon.Source: MILB
Atlanta Braves left-hander Michael Kopech to Start Rehab Assignment on Thursday
Michael Kopech (knee) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, according to manager Dave Roberts. Kopech will follow right-hander Roki Sasaki (shoulder). The Dodgers probably are in no rush to bring Kopech back to the active roster since he's been sidelined with a torn meniscus in his right knee since early July. When the hard-throwing 29-year-old is able to return, he'll settle into a late-inning, high-leverage setup role for the defending World Series champions. Kopech had a 1.13 ERA and went 4-0 with six saves in the second half of last season after the Dodgers acquired him from the White Sox, and he tossed seven scoreless relief innings with four walks and eight strikeouts in eight appearances earlier this year. It's possible Kopech could enter the committee picture for saves in L.A. down the stretch.Source: The Athletic - Fabian Ardaya
Los Angeles Angels right-handed reliever Gustavo Campero to Miss Significant Time With High-Ankle Sprain
Gustavo Campero (ankle) was diagnosed with a high left-ankle sprain and will miss significant time, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. However, Campero has not been ruled out for the rest of the season yet. The 27-year-old Colombian sprained his ankle on Tuesday night while trying to rob Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy of a home run down the right-field line. While nothing is official, it's more likely than not that we won't see Campero again for the Angels this year since they are becoming more of a long shot to make the postseason. With Mike Trout still not cleared to play defense and with Jorge Soler (back) still on the injured list, Bryce Teodosio should continue to start in the outfield in Anaheim. Campero has only played in 28 games in 2025 and has gone 10-for-58 (.172) with three homers, eight RBI and four stolen bases.Source: MLB.com - Rhett Bollinger
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Connor Norby Takes Batting Practice on Wednesday
Connor Norby (wrist) continues to rehab following wrist surgery in July. He participated in batting practice on Wednesday, although he is not expected back until the end of August at the earliest. Norby had surgery to repair a broken left hamate bone, and this type of surgery tends to zap the hitter's power when they first return. Norby hit six home runs and swiped seven bases over 72 games this year before his injury. The next step in his recovery program would be to get some live reps, followed by a rehab assignment.Source: Christina De Nicola

Tylor Megill Begins Rehab Assignment
Tylor Megill (elbow) began a rehab assignment for Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday. Megill struck out four batters over 1 2/3 scoreless innings while getting his pitch count up to 41 pitches. He did give up three hits and a walk. Megill is rehabbing back from a right elbow sprain and should need a few more rehab starts before being activated from the IL. Megill had a solid season when he went down mid-June with his injury. Over 14 starts, he racked up 89 strikeouts over 68 innings with a respectable 3.95 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.Source: MILB

Christian Scott Throws Bullpen Session
Christian Scott (elbow) threw a bullpen session last week and is "doing well." Scott is recovering from a hybrid Tommy John and internal brace procedure on his pitching elbow last September. The 26-year-old is not expected to pitch this year and is on the 60-day injured list. If all goes well, Scott may end up having a relatively "normal" off-season and could be ready for spring training of 2026. Scott made nine starts in the majors in 2024 with 39 strikeouts, 4.56 ERA, and a 1.20 WHIP across 41 innings.Source: Will Sammon
New York Mets right-hander Zach Eflin Out 4-8 Months with Back Surgery
Zach Eflin (back) will be undergoing back surgery on August 18 and is expected to be out four to eight months. Eflin will undergo a microdiscectomy for his lumbar spine after he revealed that he has had a nagging back issue for the past five to six years. Eflin said he hopes to return to the Orioles in free agency. The 31-year-old also added that this surgery is also just as much about improving his quality of life and "being a good dad." Based on this medical timeframe, he could return sometime around spring training 2026. Eflin had a rough go of it this year with multiple IL stints, posting a (6-5) record with a career high 5.93 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 71 1/3 innings.Source: Matt Weyrich
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Teddy Bridgewater Could Make Bucs Debut in Second Preseason Game
Teddy Bridgewater didn't play in the preseason opener, but he was more prominently featured in the team's QB rotation during training camp practice on Wednesday, according to beat writer Scott Smith. Head coach Todd Bowles said the work that Bridgewater gets in joint practice with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday will help him determine whether the veteran signal-caller will play on Saturday against the Steelers. "He knows how to run an offense," said Bowles. "He definitely knows how to run an offense. The timing is coming with the receivers so we look forward to him playing a little more." The 32-year-old has 10 years of NFL experience and comes to Tampa to compete with Kyle Trask for the backup job to starter Baker Mayfield. Bridgewater hasn't started a game since 2022 with the Dolphins, though, and appeared in just one regular-season contest with the Lions the last two years.Source: Buccaneers.com - Scott Smith
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Rhys Hoskins on Track for September Return
Rhys Hoskins (thumb) has been on the injured list with a Grade 2 left thumb sprain since July 7. He has progressed to on-field hitting and defensive work as well. Hoskins is still on track to begin a rehab assignment in late August and could return to the Brewers' active roster in September. Andrew Vaughn has been filling in at first for the Brewers, posting a 1.055 OPS through his first 27 games, and has helped Milwaukee rack up a 12-game winning streak. When Hoskins returns, he could still slot in as the team's designated hitter after posting a .242 batting average with 12 home runs and 42 RBI before landing on the injured list.Source: mlb.com
Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Sam Darnold to Get Some Playing Time in Second Preseason Game
Sam Darnold will be among those that play. "Our guys are going start the game out," Macdonald said. "We'll see how long it goes." Darnold has looked good in his first training camp with the Seahawks and will now try to transfer that over to game action for probably a couple of series on Friday. The 28-year-old former third overall pick in 2018 by the New York Jets out of USC has been a late bloomer in his NFL. He finally broke out as Minnesota's starter last year, throwing for a career-best 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns and 12 picks in 17 regular-season starts. It was a cool story, but Darnold is unlikely to come close to matching those numbers in Seattle. RotoBaller has him ranked as the QB27.Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson
Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said the team is still working through the plan for some of their players for their second preseason game on Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he did confirm that quarterback Chiefs Envision a Role for Tyquan Thornton This Year
Tyquan Thornton as a lock for the 53-man roster, but he writes that it's clear that the Chiefs "love Thornton and envision a role for him this season." Thornton has taken off since joining the team's practice squad last year. KC coaches love the 25-year-old's speed, and he seems to fit the role that Justin Watson played for the Chiefs the last three years. He has the speed to get deep downfield to occupy defenders and can also be a solid contributor on special teams. Newell adds that Thornton should be involved in the team's kickoff return game, and he's also being trained as a gunner on the punt team. On offense, Thornton is most likely to be more of a gadget player, at best, and he's still too buried on KC's receiver depth chart to turn heads in fantasy.Source: The Athletic - Jesse Newell
The Athletic's Jesse Newell thinks it might be too aggressive to list Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mike Gesicki Still Working his Way Back
Mike Gesicki (hamstring) is still working his way back from a hamstring injury at training camp and was working on a rehab field on Wednesday, according to Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer. A hamstring injury has kept Gesicki out of practices for the last week, and he also missed the preseason opener versus the Philadelphia Eagles last week. The 29-year-old's hamstring injury isn't believed to be all that serious, but the Bengals could hold him out of their second preseason game on Monday against the Washington Commanders as a precaution. Cincy recently signed Noah Fant for TE depth, but when healthy, Gesicki should be the primary pass-catching tight end for the Bengals. He caught 65 of 83 targets for 665 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games (three starts) a year ago and is ranked as a low-end TE2 in fantasy for the upcoming season.Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Kelsey Conway
Cincinnati Bengals tight end Deuce Vaughn Works With First-Team Offense
Jaydon Blue (heel) still sidelined from Tuesday's training camp practice, it allowed Deuce Vaughn to work with the first-team offense, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. Vaughn had a good day by showing lateral movements to make defenders miss in space. The 23-year-old is slippery in space because of his quickness and size (5-foot-6, 176 pounds), but Vaughn is still fighting an uphill battle to be involved out of Dallas' backfield in 2025. The former sixth-round pick (212th overall) in 2023 out of Kansas State has a combined 40 rushing attempts for 110 yards and no touchdowns while adding 10 receptions for 58 yards in the passing game in his two seasons in the NFL with the Cowboys. At best, he'll open his third season as the RB4 behind Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders and Blue.Source: Dallas Morning News - Calvin Watkins
With Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Kenny Pickett Still Sitting Out Team Drills
Kenny Pickett (hamstring) remained limited to seven-on-seven drills during training camp practice on Wednesday, according to Browns beat writer Kelsey Russo. Pickett entered training camp as the primary competition for veteran Joe Flacco for the starting role entering Week 1, but he injured his hamstring on July 26 and hasn't taken part in team drills since then. He also missed the preseason opener last Thursday and probably will not play this Saturday in the second preseason contest versus the Philadelphia Eagles. It doesn't sound like it's an injury that will keep Pickett sidelined into the regular season, but he's effectively already lost the QB battle to Flacco. The Browns have one of the weakest and most beat up QB rooms in the league with rookies Dillon Gabriel (hamstring) and Shedeur Sanders (oblique) also nursing injuries.Source: ClevelandBrowns.com - Kelsey Russo
Cleveland Browns quarterback Endy Rodriguez Has Season-Ending Surgery
Endy Rodriguez (wrist) underwent successful season-ending surgery this week, according to Alex Stumpf. This is a shame considering Rodriguez underwent Tommy John surgery last year. He only managed to play in 18 games for the Pirates this season, but figures to be ready for spring training. The Pirates do have high hopes for Rodriguez who does offer good upside with the bat. However, he figures to compete for playing time with Joey Bart and Henry Davis for playing time in Pittsburgh next season.Source: Alex Stumpf
Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Colton Cowser, Tyler O'Neill Not Ready Yet
Colton Cowser (concussion) and Tyler O'Neill (wrist) aren't quite ready to return from the injured list yet. On Wednesday, O's interim manager Tony Mansolino said Cowser won't be activated from the 7-day concussion list when first eligible on Thursday. The left-handed slugger is still going through concussion protocol, so he can't be activated until he has cleared that. As for O'Neill, he'll likely be sidelined until late August or early September. He's eligible to be activated off the injured list this weekend, but hasn't been making great progress in his recovery from his right wrist injury. He'll likely require a rehab assignment before being cleared to return to the O's lineup. Fantasy managers shouldn't be shocked if O'Neill is out until early September.Source: Jacob Calvin Meyer
Baltimore Orioles outfielders Austin Riley Unlikely to Return This Week
Austin Riley (abdominal) reportedly felt discomfort while doing some throwing on Tuesday. The hope was that Riley and Ronald Acuna Jr. (calf) would both be able to return from the injured list this week. Now, it seems unlikely that Riley is going to return to play when first eligible to come off the injured list on Thursday. Given the setback, it's possible that Riley does require a rehab assignment before returning to the Braves lineup. The Braves haven't given much information on that, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect Riley back in the lineup this weekend. Fantasy managers should check back throughout the week for more updates.Source: Mark Bowman
Atlanta Braves third baseman Joe Flacco Unlikely to Play in Second Preseason Game
Joe Flacco is unlikely to play in the team's second preseason game this Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Browns want to keep the veteran out, even though both rookie Shedeur Sanders (oblique) and Kenny Pickett (hamstring) might not play. Although nothing official has been announced, rookie Dillon Gabriel (hamstring) could make his NFL debut and see extensive run this weekend for the Browns. Flacco was scheduled to take the majority of first-team reps at training camp practice on Wednesday, and he remain the overwhelming favorite to be named the Week 1 starter, especially with Pickett missing over a week of team drills due to a hamstring injury. The 40-year-old gunslinger could have some decent games, but he'll also be injury-prone and on a short leash. Fantasy managers would be better off avoiding the Browns' QB situation.Source: ESPN.com - Daniel Oyefusi
ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi reports that Cleveland Browns quarterback Yordan Alvarez to Take Live Batting Practice This Weekend
Yordan Alvarez (hand) is scheduled to take live batting practice this weekend, according to Brian McTaggart. This is big news as it'll be the first time that Alvarez has faced live pitching since suffering a setback with his fractured hand over a month ago. If everything goes well, Alvarez should be cleared to go on a minor league rehab assignment after this session. He has been sidelined since early May, so he figures to need a handful of games before he's ready to rejoin the Astros lineup. The hope is that Alvarez is ready to rejoin Houston by the end of August. Fantasy managers should continue to hold Alvarez on their IR with his return on the horizon.Source: Brian McTaggart
Houston Astros designated hitter Dillon Gabriel Could Start on Saturday
Shedeur Sanders (oblique) now unlikely to play in the second preseason game on Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles, rookie Dillon Gabriel (hamstring) now has a chance to start this weekend and get extended time in his first taste of NFL action, according to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. The Browns are likely to keep veteran Joe Flacco out again, while Kenny Pickett (hamstring) still hasn't return to team drills in practices. Along with Gabriel, Tyler Huntley should see plenty of run for the second straight preseason game with the team's QB room pretty banged up. The 24-year-old Gabriel was listed as the QB3 on the team's second unofficial depth chart of the preseason, but he's reportedly been outplayed by Sanders so far this summer as the two young signal-callers merely try to prove they belong on the team beyond the 2025 season.Source: ESPN.com - Daniel Oyefusi
