Nationals Bring In Derek Dietrich
3 years agoThe Washington Nationals agreed to sign free-agent infielder/outfielder Derek Dietrich to an undisclosed deal on Friday. Dietrich has yet to play in the big leagues this year after hitting just .197 (12-for-61) with five home runs and eight RBI for the Texas Rangers in the shortened 2020 season. The Nationals need middle infield depth at the big league level and have been using Alcides Escobar at second recently. However, it's unclear if Dietrich will be an option in the majors right away. Even if he's in the lineup on Friday against San Francisco Giants right-hander Logan Webb, Dietrich won't be anything more than a deep NL-only flier for depth, and he's unlikely to see regular playing time in the short term.
