2 years agoVeteran utility player Marwin Gonzalez signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan on Friday. The 33-year-old hit just .185/.255/.321 in 86 games for the New York Yankees last season with a .576 OPS, six home runs, 18 RBI, 20 runs scored and three stolen bases in 207 plate appearances. The switch-hitter appeared at every defensive position except catcher and center field, and he even made appearances as a pitcher, designated hitter, pinch-hitter and pinch-runner. He hasn't quite been the same since he hit .303 with a career-high 23 home runs and 90 RBI for the World Series champion Houston Astros in 2017. Gonzalez has a .252 career average with a .709 OPS in 11 big-league seasons, and he'll try to repair his value for one year in Japan.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
