Logan Webb 2024 Outlook: Regression Lurks But Still A Top Starter
12 months agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb was a bright spot in the team's mediocre 2023 season. Webb led the league in innings pitched with 216, compiling an 11-13 record, 3.25 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 194 strikeouts, and placed second in voting for the National League Cy Young Award. His career-low WHIP was a result of the right-hander slashing his walk rate to 3.6% from 6.2% in 2022 and a 62.7% ground ball rate in front of an infield defense that tied for the league lead in outs above average. In 2024, Webb's WHIP can be expected to sit closer to his career mark of 1.17. In 2023, Webb brought his strikeout rate up to 22.8% from 20.7% in 2022 despite his swinging strike rate decreasing for the third consecutive year to just 9.0%. While he is not a strikeout pitcher per se, the Giants will rely on him again to eat innings thus keeping his strikeout volume up and in contention to collect wins. Webb's current ADP of 66.79 puts him as the 16th starting pitcher off the board and he has enough upside to provide value at that price.
