Jose Quintana To Be Shut Down For Three Months
2 years agoNew York Mets left-hander Jose Quintana (rib) is expected to be shut down from throwing for at least three months after he was diagnosed last week with a stress fracture on the fifth rib on his left side, according to sources. He would begin throwing again in mid-June at the earliest to ramp up for a return to the starting rotation around the All-Star break. The 34-year-old signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the Mets this offseason. With Quintana now sidelined for an extended period of time, Tylor Megill and David Peterson are the top two candidates to replace the veteran southpaw in New York's Opening Day rotation. Mets officials appear most intrigued by the idea of giving the spot to Megill, who had a 1.93 ERA in five starts to begin the 2022 season before injuries struck.
