Joey Votto Motivated To Bounce Back In 2020
5 years agoCincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto didn't pick up a bat at all during the winter after a disappointing 2019 campaign, but he also showed up more than a week early to camp, which is something he hasn't done in his 13-year career. The veteran first baseman had a career-low .768 OPS, well below his .941 career mark. Votto has combined for 27 home runs the last two seasons after hitting 36 long balls in 2017. Gone are the days in which Votto was a high-end fantasy first baseman, especially for his gaudy on-base numbers. The six-time All-Star and 2010 National League MVP could bounce back on an improved Reds team, but he's ranked just outside the top 25 fantasy first basemen and can be had in the later rounds as corner infield insurance in shallow mixed leagues.
