Jackson Merrill Could Be Nearing A Promotion To Double-A
1 year agoSan Diego Padres shortstop prospect Jackson Merrill has handled himself well this year at High-A Fort Wayne and could be nearing a promotion to Double-A if he keeps it up. He's currently slashing .280/.318/.444 with 10 home runs, 12 doubles, two triples, 33 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 50 runs scored in 300 plate appearances over 68 games played. Merrill has been much better in 16 contests since June 18, too, going 23-for-68 (.338) with four long balls, a double, six RBI, two stolen bases and 14 runs scored. The 20-year-old, who is the team's No. 1 prospect per MLB Pipeline, had an impressive showing in spring training as well, but the Padres are in no rush to move him up to the big leagues, especially with Xander Bogaerts currently locked in at the 6. The tall left-handed hitter uses all fields and should continue to develop more power as he matures.
